Just wanted to check if dism is windows 7 only or not. I been trying to integrate updates and hotfixes for vista sp2 wim file but it always gives me the 0x2 error when I try. I am doing the package path switch with the .msu files. I have tried with just cab files and still it does not work. Just wanted to know is there some limitation on this or do I have to find an older version of the waik to do sp2 images?

No. DISM.EXE v. 6.1.7100.0 runs OK even on XP SP3.

Not what it runs on but what it can service. I know it cant do anything xp since xp has no wim files. I am talking about the wim files it can service.

Post the commands you are using and the full error message reported by DISM.

ive tried using W7 WAIK and Vista wim, that didnt work.
Havent tried DISM that comes with W7 but guessing its the same.

DISM works with Vista >=Sp1 Images, not Vista RTM.

I tried on Vista SP2

yes, DISM works, it internally calls the pkgmgr from the Vista Image. This works since Vista Sp1. Look at the WAIK help.
