Could you recommend good and reliable copy managers which could replace the default one?

I've tried many different ones and can't really find anything fast and reliable enough... I'm using SuperCopier2 at the moment but it's buggy, i.e. freezes sometimes when copying large numbers of files and it seems to be a bug in the program itself (it's mentioned in the Net several times too). I've also tried using TeraCopy and while it's stable, it's also incredibly slow when copying small files which I do a lot. I've tried also some others which I don't remember names now but neither of them fitted my needs

I'm looking for a manager that completely replaces the default one, so I'm not interested in the "on-demand" ones. I don't really need such advanced functions as CRC checking, etc. but basic functionality such as pausing/resuming and being able to see and remove items from a list of files to be copied would be welcomed...

If you know about any good applications (better than SuperCopier2 or TeraCopy), please write about them in this topic!

I think I had already tried all of them before but I did it once again today and (unfortunately?) SuperCopier2 is still the best... CopyHandler is actually similar as for functionality but SuperCopier2 has much clearer interface and you don't have to open the program from tray to see a list of files to be copied and manage them, as it's in case of CopyHandler. In SuperCopier2 everything can be seen through the main window while CopyHandler's visible window is extremely limited.

In the end I'll probably stick to SuperCopier2 but I'll try to play with its buffer settings, hoping that it may have some positive effects on its stability.

What's a copy manager? The best utility for copying in my opinion is robocopy from Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit.

By copy manager I meant a replacement for the window you see when copying/moving files in Windows Explorer. It should display details about files being copied, their size, time left, etc. It should also allow you to pause and resume the transfer if necessary and also display and allow modyfing a list of files to be copied. That's basically what I need ^^

The things I like most about TeraCopy are its stability, skipping files that exist or error without breaking the copy completely, and the verification aspects. I wish it was faster, but... With the verification aspects, if you have two folders with the same list of files, but with different versions, you can run the verification, letting it eliminate all the files that are the same, via CRC hash, then you can choose which of the remaining ones to copy based on anything from size, date, or whatever. I've also used the copy with verify, (More, Menu, Options, Always test after copy), to ensure a good copy when I was having both HD and memory troubles. Yes I know with problems in those areas that verifying wasn't a 100% guarantee, but I figured it at least improved my odds. I realize many, if not all those options are available in RoboCopy, but since RoboCopy doesn't integrate in the shell nor have a nice GUI...

This one is more than a file copier, rather an Explorer alternative, but it copies a clever way:

Features I like with it:
- Optional two-panels showing different folders
- Shows compressed files (zip cab...) as subfolders
- Searches for a string within many compressed files in subdirectories, etc
- Can compare folders. You can filter if date is important, or filter only files existing at left pane but not right, and so on
- Once compared, you can update two folders accordingly. Perfect for folder synchronization (call it smart backup)
- Many languages, one single programme installation
- At least v2005.09a and v2004.10b run on W95, at least v2004.10b and v2007.10a run on W2k
- Seen no bug up to now. Starts quickly on a P1 120MHz.

Drawbacks? No big one.
It has many menus and shortcuts, not organized absolutely the way you expect them. Nothing tragic.
Not faster at copying than Windows' Explorer - as usual.

One test if Windows' Explorer issues simultaneous requests when copying would be to measure it with and without Ahci.
Or to compare W2k and WMe on the same hardware and set of small files.
Beyond that, have an SSD - or a Samsung mechanical disk: they're much better at copying within one disk, for obscure reasons.
