Hi Guys,

I have slipstream Windows XP SP3 with various Addons, Hotfixes and Tweaks. It get well done with only two error releated to Printer Support only (which I don't use). Otherwise No Problem.

I have pretty much 'low-end' machine (Pentium 4 3.00Ghz - 512RAM - No Graphic Card), hence I can't test newly built Windows XP SP3 on Virtually. So, I have to install it on live machine and see the result.

Install went smoothly without any error....But when I see the running services in Service Manager from Administrative Tools, some services were won't started - ALG, Security Center, Windows Firewall (ICS) specially.

I try to start them manual but they won't.

For ALG I got this error message - Error 1053 : The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. By the way I have ticked it to start Automatic but it's Manual in there. ?

For Security Center & Windows Firewall I got this error message - Error 1075 : The dependency services does not exist or has been marked for deletion. So, I recheck their dependency services like Event Log, RPC, Remote Access Connection Manager etc. but they already started.

So, What's the Problem ? Any Help?

Hi,

maybe it's TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper or IPSEC Policy Agent (less likely). I think those three services you can't start depend on each other, Windows Firewall being the most important, which in turn depends on the one(s) I mentioned. Maybe not directly, but I can see "a chain of events" here, like in this recent post here (your DHCP cannot start if you don't remove NetBios* from its dependencies). Does your Network Connections folder get populated when you browse into it (through Control Panel)?

* It's not the same service, but it's part of the same network infrastructure tied together in XP.

What would I do differently:

- not remove Printers if I'd like to be problem-free
- also remove all English keyboards if I don't need them (US, the default, 0409, the built-in, is not listed, so you can't lose that)
- keep the following:
IPSEC Policy Agent
Message Queuing (MSMQ)
Performance Logs and Alerts
TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
WebClient
but disable them. I found some things subtly break if they are removed.
- reduce the number of services I'd change startup state of (I also found that changing too many doesn't always work). They can always be changed manually.

For now, to try to make it work, maybe set (I'll use short names):
EventSystem,2
NetLogon,3
NLA,2
xmlprov,3
NtLmSsp,3
PlugPlay,2
RemoteAccess,3
LanmanServer,3

Yeah, I think ur right. B'cause I look into my friend's PC I found very similar...when I Disabled TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper, Security Center won't start.

No it's not. Why, any thing wrong in there?

If you had defined a network connection previosly and if it gets populared after a while, it's a sign you need to set to Automatic one or more of the following : RasAuto, RasAcd, RasMan, TapiSrv . It (the network) will work anyway, but there might be pauses on boot and other subtle problems. Maybe could be the reason for your Firewall problem. For now, you can remedy most of it if you go into Network Connections folder, wait until it gets populated, then open Services.msc and see what manual services have started, set them to Auto.

If you had not defined a network connection before, disregard this (but then why would you need a firewall )

I don't know what program you tried but Virtualbox does work with (both XP) 256Meg for host and 256 for guest.
