CharlotteTheHarlot
I am pretty sure some great comments will be coming here:http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-store-in-nycs-times-square-shuts-downAlready ...The Microsoft store was never intended to be permanent, it was one of many "pop up stores" for the holidays, all of which should be closing this week.... uh huh. He believes it makes sense to close them this week ahead of the launches of Surface Pro, Office 2013, Office 364 and the Windows 8 "re-launch".EDIT: updated image URL Edited March 17, 2013 by CharlotteTheHarlot
ciHnoN
See what this slave sais on Channel9:http://channel9.msdn...Desktop-relief-...For some reason I don't want to get involved in hacks to make Windows work the way I want to. For one, it forces me to accept the changes that I eventually need to accept, no matter how counter-productive they are in practice...That must be one of the creepiest comments I have read. He admits Windows doesn't really work the way he wants AND that it is counter-productive... BUT... he likes the fact that it forces him to accept changes and he needs to accept, "no matter how counter-productive they are".What the hell is going on with people? Are these even human? Accepting change for sake of change because their masters told them to do so. It is truly starting to sound like a cult. Formfiller
You know, I thought nothing could beat the Linux fanatics in terms of cult-value. Eightards have proven that this is possible. In fact the eightards are way worse - the "freetards" at least pretended to "stick it to the man", while the microslaves want to serve the man with zeal apparently. So they are zealots AND corporate whores.

ciHnoN
...I am pretty sure he still hates W8. I guess he meant that he needs to know how it works (for his clients and such).Perhaps you are right but the way he put that sentence together, I cannot help but get a creepy feeling from it. I think that show the level of mentality among people in general. They accept ANYTHING. Very few seem to be able to say "Say what? Why? No, I will not participate.". I wish more people would do that and put their feet down and say... no. Not only to crap like W8 but in society in general.

JorgeA
One of the pillars in the study of ergonomics is this book by Donald Norman:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Design_of_Everyday_Thingshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_NormanThe main idea is "affordance" of objects with which you interact.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AffordanceA plate on a door "affords" to be pushed, it is like it is shouting "hey, push me", a round bar, of a suitable diameter and length "affords" to be gripped by the hand, it's like shouting "hey grip me", etc.Besides the fact that the only thing the NCI "affords" is to be switched off, do check page #29 on google book's preview:http://books.google.it/books?id=w8pM72p_dpoC&printsec=frontcover#v=onepage&q&f=falseThere is a clear example about the "generic risk" the MS guys are taking .That looks like a pretty interesting book! I may go out looking for my own copy.Just one question, though: where was the discussion of "generic risk" that you mentioned? I couldn't find it on page 29 (or before or after), and a term search didn't find it there either. Also, when you said page 29, did you mean the discussion that ends on page 29, or the section "The Paradox of Technology" that starts on page 29?Nonetheless, it looks like a fascinating read. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!--JorgeA

JorgeA
In Windows 8, without a Start button, properly shutting down or rebooting Windows can be a bit of a chore. Many users want to shut down or reboot Windows in just one click. This script enables users to click on a tile to shut down, reboot or log off Windows on the Start menu.Actually the script creates the links on the start screen, not start menu.. but still they wrote "chore" in relation to W8 here.First signs of sanity?I fully expect the guy who wrote that to be applying for unemployment within the month...--JorgeA
