Future versions of Firefox on Windows 2000

Have you tried any of these kernels yet? I really doubt you'll experience ANY issues with them. Both of them have been used for a pretty long time and all bugs were already fixed in the initial phase.

I located WB's KB2393802.but I'm going to wait until I have another machine or backup boot drive

before to try it on. Thanks for all the work though.

I guess then I'll have to adapt, if I can't get Wild Bill's or BWC's kernel to work for me the only

alternative would be one copy of xp pro upgrade for this workstation,then nLite my 2000 CDs

and just use 2000 to run the capture cards in dedicated refurb computers and go to Linux full time.

I agree...but I don't know if contributors will be able to also build contributed versions of Firefox for OS/2 or eComStation after Firefox 12 and Win2K support both hit EOL.

I still have the Windows XP VM running under VMware Player. It's unclear to me if Firefox 13 will run on a processor that only has SSE2 instructions or that it will start requiring SSE3 (found on Pentium 4 HT processors or later). If Firefox 13 requires SSE3 users on Windows XP and Linux running on a computer that only has SSE2 support is going to be in a lot of trouble. I pretty much will most likely have to switch to Opera soon unless there are volunteer contributed hacks and workarounds to make VS2010-based Firefox working on Win2k.

I did too download WB's KB2393802 and I'm still looking for the direct link for blackwingcat's custom version of MSVC++ 2010 that will work on Win2k. Starting next week, RelEng will be getting ready to remove the Win2k support code from Gecko, because the code in the trunk is now dead since they switched to MSVC++ 2010 in the trunk Nightly.

If a company is not going beyond Firefox 3.6, they'll be very unhappy to learn that Firefox 3.6 will be EOL'd on 24 April after 3.6.28.

I also don't know if Pale Moon will be able to build versions of their browser after version 12 since the switch to MSVC 2010 affects all Mozilla-based apps.

If you go to my PE Tool thread, toward the bottom is a rather long list of all of the API's that were added with the latest KB2393802 and KB2408429 patches. EncodePointer and DecodePointer are in the list, and I've tested them pretty thoroughly. The API's to watch out for are the SxS activation context API's: I've been working like crazy to add them to KB2393802-v9, but it's an enormous job. Let's hope Gecko v.13 doesn't need them.

The change will effect all Mozilla-based apps, including Firefox, SeaMonkey and Thunderbird. Plus, developers are in the process of removing the now dead-support code for Windows 2000 from Gecko since MSVC 2010 is incompatible with Win2k.

more specifically, Thunderbird 13 and Seamonkey 2.10.x will start using MSVC 2010 code, which will officially drop win2k & pre-XPSP2 support.

Thank you for telling me. I don't even know if SeaMonkey 2.10 will be renamed SeaMonkey 3.0 due to the use of MSVC 2010 code once it hits beta. MSVC 2010 will also drop support for Windows Server 2003 RTM as well.

not happening at all, ppgrainbow. Seamonkey 2.10 is version 2.10.0 and not going to be renamed to 3.0.

Seamonkey 2.10.0 beta 1 was released about a week ago. and the next versions of Seamonkey will be 2.11 & 2.12 as noted on the MozillaWiki Releases page.

All MS VC++ DLL files (including the latest ones) are included in UURollup. They originally come from this addon.

I am unsure of the difference and what is meant by "Ex Kernel". Is the v6 file to be used WITH your Kernel installed and the v3 to be used WITHOUT your Kernel installed? Or do I have that backwards?

Or am I completely off-base and it has nothing to do with having your Kernel updates installed?

I am just looking into this because it is getting close to the June 5 release and I am not that familiar with installing any of the major Kernel updates available. My experience to date has only been with using the KDW wrapper to get around the adobe Flash installer issue.
