Microsft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package install problem Rate Topic: -----

Hi

I need to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package to be able to install Avira Free antivirus. But the installation doesn't work.
I've searched the problem and found some tips here.

One possibility is that the root certificate needs to be updated.

I've downloaded the root certificate here:

But when I double click on the exe file nothing happens and it's still not possible to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package.

Windows has issues to find the installation source. Extract the files to C:\Temp\VC2010 and run the setup from there and don't let Windows extract the installer.

The VC++ runtime has one of the worst installers I've ever seen. It always seems to want to extract itself in the root of one of your drives and then leaving all the installation files there... You'd think MS would have figured it out by now. I mean, they only made the OS, the dev tools, the runtime you're installing, the windows installer engine and everything else involved...

this was a bug in the VC2008 RTM setup.

But Windows tries to extract the files to the partition with the largest free amount of space. And in this case the setup fails to detect the files.

Hi

The Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (vcredist_x86.exe) is a sfx cab file so I renamed to vcredist_x86.cab and opened it.

But I couldn't extract it since all foldernames in the cab start with .\.\.\

Should I create folders manually first and then extract the files to their respective folder or how should I do?

Have you tried going inside the ".\.\.\."? I think there must be the end somewhere.

Here's what I did:

Tried extracting the files with jZip but it want to extract anything.
Tried extracting the file with IZarc to C:\Temp\Vcredist\ gave an error and the installation didn't work
Extracted with Winrar to C:\Temp\Vcredist\ and that worked fine!
Double clicked on Setup.exe

This error came up:

Windows installer:

"The feature you are trying to use is in a network resource that is unavailable."
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'vc_red.msi' in the box below.

There was a browse option next to the box so I browsed to C:\Temp\Vcredist\vc_red.msi and then did the installation work! :yes:
