Error 80070490 when installing SP2 Rate Topic:

Trying to install system updates on a machine running Vista Home Premium and getting error 80070490 during the SP2 update. A quick Google search brought me to the Update Readiness Tool, but even after that installs successfully I get the same error when attempting to install SP2. I tried resetting Windows Update with Tweaking.com Windows Repair hoping to see some missed prerequisites show up but nada.

to see the cause of Windows Vista update/SP failures, we must look for error messages in the following log files:

Please run the Windows Explorer and go to the folder "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\" and copy all files to your document folder, also copy the setupapi.dev.log from the folder C:\Windows\Inf, the file WindowsUpdate.log from C:\Windows and the file "C:\Windows\winsxs\poqexec.log" to your document folder (otherwise you can't upload it), zip all files into 1 ZIP and upload the zip (dropbox, skydrive, Zippyshare.com, mediafire.com) and post a link here.

not exactly. if the "repair" installation uses Vista RTM files, you'll have to install SP1 first and then install SP2.
Vista SP2 requires SP1 installed first and refuses to install on Vista RTM.
