Hi,

I've been tinkering with WDS and Unattended Windows 7 installs for the past few days. This is the first time using WDS and Windows 7 as a unattended install, I've used Ghost + XP Unattended in the past.

I captured an image using WDS and successfully restored that image onto different machines, during installation the machines joined the domain beautifully thanks to WDS.

Next gave a fully unattended install a try.

  • I made a simple XML file using the Windows Automated Installation Kit, configured WDS to use this file and tried this in a VMWare VM.
  • The install works fine but the machine does not join the domain at all.
  • So i tried adding the domain stuff in the unattended XML file but that also did not work.
  • I also tried enabling the "Do not join the client to a domain after an installation" option under the Client tab of the WDS Server options. That also did not work.

I've been busy with this for the last 2 days and I'm about to throw my computer out of the window. So please point me into the right direction before I smash something :)

I have attached my XML file and substituted the domain name and password for dummy ones :)

Please help,

Bento

I always wonder why people try to use the AD root Admin for adding PCs to the domain...

Take a look over this thread, maybe it will help:

I have a join account, this is just to make sure it isn't the join account that was causing the problems :)

I fixed this by removing the SecureJoin option.

Great, thanks for telling us how you fixed it. Many people seem to have trouble with Unattend Join, but I've never tried it myself.
