I have a friends laptop that will not boot into vista because of a corrupt sytem volume. I tried every trick in trhe book and still cannot get it to boot up. He wants me to recover his photos which I could access and see using the UBCD. How ever I could not log on to my windows 7 desktop to tranfer the data because I get the dreaded you do not have permission to log onto this network error. I am not sure if this is the right place but I am hoping someone has advice. I did download the vista boot CD here but have not burned as of yet. I also tried my usb to sata connector but all that does is keep freezing up.

Thanks,

Brian in MI

Its not so dreaded. Did you already set up a share on your Win7 PC and create an account to log in with?

In this case, the fastest way might be to get the drive out of the laptop and connect it to an usb/e-sata enclosure or directly to a sata connector in a desktop and recover the data from here.

Thanks for the reply. That is what I have been trying but my windows 7 desktop has had an awful time accessing it. It has caused lock-ups.
