I have a strange issue. One of our applications uses IE to connect via a jinitiator connection to a server. The link through IE opens a new IE window and then the Java information is filled in on that window - That is how it is supposed to work.

On some computers though, it creates the usual about:blank IE window and then opens a new window which should not happen. If you click on a link to return to the main window - It is supposed to take you back to the initial IE window but again on some, it opens another new IE window.

Does this make sense? If it does, any ideas on a solution? OS is Windows 2000 Professional with all patches etc, IR 6 SP1 with all patches etc and the jinitiator is 1.3.1.9 from Oracle.

The first thing you should do it try to gather info on the versions of JRE on the various computers.

Odd things happen when versions dont match what was used to develop java services. Spent a few days troubleshooting that on a development server which had several versions of java knocking around, being enabled depending on what was being run...

That was sort of my thinking as well so I removed every reference to Java on my computer, rebooted etc. Allowed the link to reinstall the java components but still a no go.

Remember. JInitiator != Java Virtual Machine
They are not the same thing. If you ran around and deleted all references to Java you probably hosed things up good.

Oracle JInitators are notoriously flakey. They are also a nightmare to install silently. I'd check with Oracle about this problem. I know that some versions of the JInitator will not work on Pentium 4 based PC's.

Also, try playing around with the JInitator applet in Control Panel, try loosening security a bit. Another suggestion, make sure the web site you're going to is added to the Trusted Sites in Internet Explorer.
