ok so i have a 1TB WD usb portable hard drive in ntfs format in win7 64bit
and since using win7 i have had it plugged into my main pc as backups
i have then put other stuff on it and using it to transfer between computers but every time i plug it into a different computer it wants to format it and it requires me to take ownership before im able to access it. then when i put it back into my computer i have to do it again!
is there anyway i can set the usb drive so i dont need to set permissions every time i use it...? i dont even know how it got that way.....

i have even set it up in an exact copy of my windows7 pc (fresh format and then a fresh format in a virtual pc) and it still requires to take ownership???

It is because when a new hard disk is added to a system that was made on another PC, it is seen as being a foreign disk. It may have something to do with how your enclosure hardware reports the drive to the OS. Does it appear as a removable disk or as a hard drive? One way to tell is how it appears in Computer.
