For example if you are using MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) that little green icon should be red indicating that it is not scanning downloads and other files.
Such realtime programs can affect downloads and even inserting a flashdrive.

as torrent has its own hash check for each 'part' preventing wrong data/files being build.
but MS probably doesn't like torrents....
