Partition and install?

I have windows 7 running ATM. Is it possible to partition the drive and install 8 so I have both or do I need to format the drive and lose my 7 install?

Yes you can. You need to right click the current W7 partition (in disk management) and shrink it. Then use the unallocated space for W8.

if you use the Pro or Enterprise yu can boot Windows from a VHD:
