Hello.

I'm using pxelinux to load my winpe.iso (3.1 and 4.0).
I've also an HTA menu.

I want to add some diagnostic tools through my HTA menu.
I can use any Windows tool (Western Digital Dalalife Guard, Seatools etc).
Now i want to be able to run DOS tool (Memtest86+, Windows Memory Diagnostic etc).

I was thinking that if i could "quit" winpe without rebooting and continue to pxelinux memdisk i could load the diagnostics somehow.
So, is there a way to "quit" winpe without rebooting?
Any other suggestions?

I already can run the DOS tools through my pxelinux menu, but i want to use my WinPE + HTA menu instead.

I think we were spoiled with Windows 95 and Windows 98 with the ability to exit one OS and go into another one. I have not seen any one able to duplicate that type of thing with WinPE and be able to exit to DOS, or anything else.

Yes and no.

There is *something* though whether it is working (or will work ) and specifically it will work on a PE (and on a PE 3.x specifically) is very hard to say.

I do fail to understand the *need* for such a thing in the depicted scenario, WHAT is the problem with rebooting and load the "other OS"?
Just the "convenience" of using the HTA menu?
Then you can probably tweak it to alter the rebooting (change the item booted by default in the pxelinux .cfg) and force a reboot, but it still seems to me a way to make one's life more complex thean needed...

I think WinKexec is exactly what i need, but it seems that it doesn't work with WinPE 4.0.
When i send a reboot command, the PC freezes.

As a matter of fact I think that it doesn't work "at all" unless the keyboard issue has been resolved in the meantime.

No.
Meaning that there are several way to send a reboot command, it may depend on the particular way/specific tool or command you use to send it, and there is also the issue of "warm" and "cold" reboots.
