Thanks. Do you see anything wrong with my shutdown performance? Do you know of any tools or switches which allows logging up until the point of failure?

the shutdown of skype is a bit long (10s):

<shutdownProcess name="Skype.exe" shutdownStartTime="220" shutdownEndTime="10791" processEndTime="10776" shutdownDuration="10571" shutdownLevel="4" shutdownFlags="74243" />

LogMeIn seems to hang:

- <unresponsiveServices numUnresponsiveServices="1">
  <unresponsiveService name="LogMeIn" />
  </unresponsiveServices>

the rest seams to be ok.

on the picture I can see that the Disk is busy all the time. So it looks like the disk is the bottleneck.

have you used the 8.0 or 8.1 WPT to capture the trace?

well found part of the problem at least, intel 3770k  processors don't support virtualization. so even though it's enabled in the bios installing hyper-v causes the system to hang when loading the services after login. uninstalled hyper-v and the 5 min boot time drops back down to under 30 seconds

the 3770k does support VT-x, but Hyper-V sucks completely. Use VMware Player or Virtualbox instead.

Greetings MagicAndre I have a toshiba laptop that is about 5 days old. On every 4th or 5th boot the computer will hang at boot for about 15mins. I disabled fast boot and this didn't do any difference. https://dl.dropboxus...ummary_boot.xml is a link to my Summaryboot.xml file. could you please read it and see if you can see what is causing it?

Many Thanks in advance, Ben

Good news Installed the updated driver. It still was very slow to boot but it was faster.

I then found the log file for the Inter storage driver, it stated that it was unable to set current power management settings in drive which stopped it from allowing the disk to operate at full speed. I disabled power management for the hard drive and now it starts within 20 seconds.

Thanks for the advice and help MagicAndre.

Cheers, Ben

Andre,

Is there any bad effect if the power management for the hard disk is disabled? 20s of booting time sounds pretty nice!

it consumes a bit more power, but there are no delays when you access the drive. It no longer needs to be wake up.

Thanks for replying, Andre. But now, I want to know if it is a bad idea when we don't let the hard disk sleep or rest at all! Will the disablement of the power reduce the durability of a hard disk? Power consumption is less important to me btw.

Aloha, I don't think so. It's more just to do with power savings, etc. I have had hard drives that have had powered up times of 3 or more years. These have never had any power saving enabled. They never failed I just replaced them as they filled up.

Cheers, Ben.

Hi Bentree,
Thank you for the answer. It's always good to know more about the hardware and take care of the hard drives. Mine came with the computer when I bought it 3 years ago. It's quite a long time so I am somewhat afraid that it will fail to work suddenly! I feel a little bit at ease now!

Ah, and I said the power consumption was not important in this case because it is a desktop I am using, not a laptop.

Andre,

Could you please take a look at the file

https://skydrive.liv...thint=file,.zip

Installed the 8.1 WPT and cant read a thing with WPA.

<Edit> Specifically, Session init is delayed waiting on hardware that I can't identify.

Thanks in advance,

Victor
