Hello all. Here is what I have so far.
I have a desktop and a notebook and my roommate has a desktop. I have a linksys router with 4 ports and wireless.

I want to share "My Documents" on both my desktop and notebook so that my two comps can sync those folders and I have the latest files on each one. I have that all setup, really easy to do.

What I don't like is that my roommate has access to this too. Can I setup usernames and passwords on both computers so that it will ask the user when trying to browse my network computers?
Or does anyone have a better idea?

Thanks
]Bonkers[

What you should do is remove "Everybody" from the share permissions, and then add your own username to the list (make sure its password protected).

Your roommate shouldn't be able to access your share then :)

AaronXP: I go to "My Homework" which is in "My Documents". I right click and go to sharing and security but I all I get is this:

I am guessing you are referring to this box:

but I don't know how to access that.

I found this in an article:

Allowing Network Access with Blank Passwords

Added 3/23/02

Although you can log in locally without a password, by default, WindowsXP Pro does not allow network users to access the computer without a password. Typically you will receive an Unknown error 31 if this is the case.

To change this setting:

1. Run gpedit.msc
2. Go to Computer Configuration / Windows Settings / Security Settings / Local Policies / Security Options
3. Double click on Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console login only
4. Disable this option

What I did instead, was disabled the Guest account from there. Now It prompts us for a password, but when we try to connect to that computer, it won't let me change the username of the account that I want to login with. It has Guest enabled by default

Any ideas?
Thanks ]Bonkers[

well, for a start, youll have to disable simple file sharing. if you have xp home, this isnt going to happen. but if you have xp pro, you go up to tools > folder options > view, scroll down to the bottom, and click the 'enable simple filesharing' box.
now, when you go to share a folder, you can click the permission button, and set the users you want to allow access to. as for your other problem, i fixed that once too, but cant remember how :)

Alright.. I disabled simple sharing.

I am at this window now.

The user I want to add isn't on "Rons-PC" or in my case "Notebook", but on "Desktop" yet, I can't change where the location is. As a result, I can't find his name under Name (RDN). The cloest is User (Notebook\User) and I want to add User (Desktop\User).

What I am trying to do is add a user (who has the same name on both computers) and give him access to some of my folders, but prevent "Everyone" from having access.

Thanks
