Thanks for the suggestions, I've looked into DisplayFusion and UltraMon in the past, when Windows had even less multi-monitor support. :) They're great, but I've realized that my normal day-to-day workflow doesn't require most of their functionality, especially now that Windows has added taskbars to each monitor.

At this point, I simply am looking for a good start-menu replacement that will also replicate itself on each taskbar. I used ClassicShell for a while (which can do this), but, again, it has more than I need along with the fact that it isn't near as native a solution as StartIsBack. StartIsBack is perfect for my needs so far, and having it on every monitor would be icing on the cake. :)

Ah, thanks for the clarification. You make me want SiB to do this even more than I thought! :D

@Tihiy

may i ask how many time SIB was downloaded? Currently pokki and Start8 claim to have over 1 million downloads, so I would be interested how much users SIB has.

SIB legit versions were downloaded about 100,000 times. That includes updates and of course only some fraction of users buys it.

I searched the topic but didn't find any reference to the arstechnica review of this product which brought me here.

I hope you guys are not tired of dotdot releases.
1.3.3 is up with DEP fix, which was critical. Although nobody cared for 3 months :sneaky:

Thanks, Tihiy! :)

Yeah, I would guess that people who change the default behavior of DEP to be in the minority - not that it shouldn't have been corrected but it's no surprise that it didn't get noticed sooner.

Great program, bought a licence a few months ago and have been using it on both my laptop and desktop since. No complaints about how it works, but a small suggestion. Is there any way to make the program auto-update? Right now it tells me when there is a new version available, but having it update automatically would be the best.

Agreed, but I'd like the auto-update feature to be optional. At least we can rollback in case there is any problem with the new version.

Tihiy, Shift+Restart in Metro takes us to the graphical boot environment so you don't need to reboot twice to boot into another OS. Possible to add the same to StartIsBack's Restart command?

Hey Tihiy,

First of all, awesome application you have created! Love the features and customization. Very light and no extra services. I liked it that much, I bought 10 licenses, even though I only have 2 PCs running Windows 8 :D

Now, I may be 'nitpicking' a little bit here, as the program is otherwise seemingly perfect, but I have found the following issues and inconsistencies:

  • When using two-finger scrolling on a notebook touchpad, the user profile picture pop behind the start menu, cutting half of it off. I have not been able to replicate it with a mouse. See attachment.
  • After using the 'Search programs and files' search bar, the text still remains grey, rather than changing to black, like in Windows 7. Not sure if design choice, though.
  • Upon opening the SIB start menu for the first time, immediately or otherwise after a fresh boot/restart, many of the icons/folders take a considerable amount of time to appear. Computer is rather modern, so shouldn't be a speed issue. Maybe a issue with caching? See attachment.

I have tried clean installing the latest version (v1.33) to correct the above issues, but to no prevail.

Thank you for your time and effort! Keep up the great work!

Cheers,

Naito.

I wish we could figure out what's causing some people to have a delay in icon loading / start menu populating. I've never had any noticeable delay under one each desktop and laptop and VMWare installations.

I haven't seen delays in StartIsBack, but Start Screen -> All programs takes forever to load icons for me.

That's obviously a touchpad driver issue which pushes start menu window on top. Perhaps i can work this around.

That's the style for default search control.

Something slows disk i/o down. Windows Defender is known to cause big slowdowns.

Thanks for the reply. I can confirm something is slowing it down, not sure if it is Defender though. The system is using an SSD, so would have thought slow I/O would have very little effect. Regardless, it works fine on my second PC fine , after further investigation.
