Of course its probably in here somewhere, but I have read for days & burned about 50 cds, & can not get my Maxtor ata133 pci card drivers to load using the f6 prompt nor by any attempt at MSD setup. Is the f6 thing out the window in an unattended install as is the repair/restore options? These drivers, by the way, do have to replace the XP promise drivers. XPCREATE is quite the slick little prog but finding help is a little hard, so any answers will be appreciated!!

http://greenmachine....ING/addraid.htm

that will integrate your drivers and you never have to worry about them again (atleast till SO2 comes out)...

thx for the quick reply, but been there, tried that. I may have done it wrong, of course, & will keep tryin 'til I get it!! I guess my main question is will the f6 prompt work in an unattended install? I dont see the reasoning in setting up for unattended if it won't work on multiple puters with dif configurations.

Are you using 'Repartition=Yes" in your WINNT.SIF
If so, try not using that switch and you shouldn't have any troubles using the f6 method toload the MSD's.

Try this and let us know what happens

i think it should work even if u have repartition=yes
because F6 screen is at the very beginning of the setup
even before anything else. press f6 an voila

well, typically and Microsoft intended i believe the installs are meant to be from a network source and the F6 is for homeusers with ATA/SATA/RAID cards.

As for the link I gave you, you probally added multiples of the same line and didn't know it. Misses a quote or didn't replace the ultra.sy_ in i386.

As for F6 issue at hand, i believe i saw somewhere that the F6 somehow gets corrupted or something by an unattended install. But I've never had a problem.

It could be that your Driver disk you're trying use, isn't right. You could go to the maxtor website, download the drivers, and create a new disk.

@c00llizard Are you not able to hit f6 at all(Does it not give you the option to do this)? Or is it giving you an error when you hit f6 to try and use the floppy?

If it is giving you an error, refer to this link from MS.

Give us any more information that would be helpful. Can you load the drivers using the f6 method on a non-modified WinXP CD, etc...?

This one could be a little tricky.

The first thing you should do is integrate the drivers, adding them to the i386 folder and updating txtsetup.sif.

If the filename of your updated driver is the same as Windows' you may be ok, so long as its signed.

I have never gotten F6 to work with OEMPreinstall=Y (or Yes, can't remember). I thought I was stuck doing attended installs until I integrated the drivers.

Here's a long winded guide on integrating the drivers from scratch.

Man, seems I opened a whole can of worms here! F6 prompt works with either yes or no in repartition, as far as asking for floppy. Setup sees floppy & initially loads the newest Maxtor drivers, but during file copy it says cannot copy. Then, of course, it is either esc to cancel copy or f3 to abort. either way install is over!
Yes, f6 works fine with original cd & with sp1a created with Xpcreate. It is only when the unattended install enters the scene, that f6 becomes a prob. Same unattended cd works fine on other puters without addon cards, but as I said earlier what good is an unattended install if it isn't universal?
This brings up another question. Xpcreate supports some raid driver integration, several which I would like to add after other probs conquerred. However, ref.chm in sp1 deploy tool, says not to add secondary mass storage drivers initially, as u will get error. So am I correct to think that a new cd would be needed for each configuration? This is why I have been trying to get f6 to work.
I would send copies of all my winnt.sif configs, but that would be too vast!! I have tried all(i think) combos of the variables at unattended.msfn.

Like I said, F6 doesn't work with when OEMPreinstall=Y in winnt.sif.

When you slipstream your controller card drivers the only file you'll need to modify is txtsetup.sif. Do not add any "mass storage" lines to winnt.sif. It won't work.

When you get the drivers successfully slipstreamed you won't need to touch the F6 key at all.

then you have to go the intergrated route..

and yes, you can with the Maxtor drivers, as i;ve done it myself a few days ago.

if they are RAID/SATA/ATA you should have no problem (make sure you don't add duplicate entries....for ultra, there are already some in there, just search ULTRA and add more in the same section as the others) as they only really react if the device they belong to is detected.
