The difference between Winpe3 and WInpe4

5 posts in this topic

Well WinPE 3.0 is based on Windows 7 RTM, 3.1 is Windows 7 SP1 and 4.0 is Windows 8. I've noticed that my WinPE4 images are larger in size than the PE3.0 ones. WinPE4 supports more packages, such as PowerShell.

Also WinPE 4 is more up-to-date:

- native support of 4K sector drives

- VHDX / ISO virtual disk file support

- USB 3 support

Are there any issues or special requirements using WinPE4 to install Win7, either x86 or x64? I seem to remember seeing comments from folks that had some problems, but I can't put my finger on them now.

Cheers and Regards
