Ok, I understand that they say Winamp 5 combines the best aspects of Winamp 2 and 3. However, can anyone tell me what was good about Winamp 3 coz I should it so crap that I uninstalled it within 2hrs of installing it.
Also, apart from the visual side of Winamp 5, what other good features does it have over v2.91?

It basically adds support for "modern" skins as well as supposedly having improved code for general functions ( its the most actively worked on version after all ) but unlike Winamp 3 most of the bloatware are now optional components.
I stuck with 2.x as long as 3.x was the only "new" version, but version 5 works well for me...much better than 3
I use winamp for only 2 purposes : Listening to mp3's and listening to di.fm shoutcast streams.
And occasionally hosting some streams myself.
So I did not need winamp to try to duplicate what I already do better elsewhere :
- CD burning
- Video playing
etc...

Ive been using Winamp 5 for a while. I still prefer the original though, it takes longer to load up with 5 it seems and it's more stuff in it that I don't really need. Specially the video, i hate queuin up a folder fullo music and havin 1 full length movie in the folder and then winamp playing it. But overall, it doesn't crash, just seems a bit more sluggish.

I didn't really like WinAmp 5 at all. First it takes way too long to load, at least on my system. I just want to click on a song and listen to it, not wait "5" seconds for the pretty skins and visualizations to load up. I use Media Player Classic for playing video so I don't need that feature either. I went back to Winamp 2.x because it loads right away and plays music just as well as 5. That's all I really want, a small, fast player.

Basically Winamp 5 is WMP just created from someone other than microsoft. It's going the same route as WMP, went from small and quick to big and bloated. Thats why mplayer2.exe is still popular
and winamp 2x is still used a lot.
Oh, and the video portion isn't as good/easy to use as it is in WMP 9x.

if its taking long to load up switch to classic skin
mine works like a rocket. I've more than 2000 mp3's and they load of from my mp3 player.
if winamp's reading all the titles, this definitely causes a big delay.
so disable reading the titles stuff. change it to read at play...
What? winamp is wmp???? are u crazy??? do u have any idea how much ram media player eats? and do u know how to disable the visual plugins in media player? (except mini skin)
classic media player is cool though... well i love winamp 5. i see everything i expect from it. now it even supports video files
i usually use wmp to open video files bc usually i listen to music in winamp when i'm checking a movie or i use wmp bc i don't like reverting my playlist back and fort..

WMP : Does not ask you what components you want to install
Winamp 5 : Does ask
Don't need the video support ? Then don't install it...

i like the good ol' winamp, when the skins werent so crazy, the player wasnt all cramped up and loaded a hell of a lot quicker.
all i use it now is to listen to streaming music via shoutcast.com.
other than that i've gotten used to WMP9.... go figure...i was originally a die-hard winamp fan..... "it kicks the lamas a**!"

winamp5 is cool...
it loads quick as (use the classic skin
)
and i have a huge library (way over double xtrememacs)
and.. you can enqueue songs..
to add all my mp3s to it.. takes about 5 seconds...
winamp 5 is great...
