I am running Windows 2000 pro. I have noticed in the last few months that when I attach a file to email or load a file to my web site that it takes a great deal of time. The same to switch between different folders. When you click on the drop down menu it takes up to 15 second to open the drop down to appear, another 15 sec to open the drive, another 15 sec to open a folder, another 15 to open a sub folder and so on....... This is an average, sometime it is faster, sometimes slower. Right now it is running faster.
I have scanned with Nortons and Stinger. Run all the Nortons system utilities. The computer is running 45 processes using 200meg of ram, i have been told this is to many. Unfortunatly i dont know how or what processes to turn off. I am going to download and run some spy wear programs (any recomendations).
When this system was new it was a pretty fast machine. Nothing has really changed I am running the same programs and searching the same web sites and doing the same thing.
1. Why all of a sudden (2-3 months) am i seeing my work taking longer and longer to finish.
2. Is there a minimum number of processes that must run for the computer to operate and is there a way to remove these processes similar to mscofig?
Thanks
Bill

Get more RAM and get Ad-Aware and Spybot - Search and Destroy to search for spyware and adware...
Those two suggestions should easily increase your computer's overall performance!

First of all, remove index services if u use it, it makes your searches faster by making list of all files and dirs on your comp, but beacuse of that it takes alot of cpu power, and yes get more ram as someone said earlier!

How do you remove these processes. If I highlight them in task manager can i remove them there or do i have to remove them in a different manner. I will get more ram. One gig has been sugugested. That may be a wee bit rich for my blood but iw will try.
Thanks for the feed back
