In the case of Win8.1, it can be nicely installed just by extracting files and schedule exe file to start with computer with admin privileges. Uninstalling is just removing the scheduled task and deleting the files. However, in case of Win8, it is really complicated to ensure it will be clean and safe.

Well, since win8.1 is going to be a free update, eventually everyone will be using it. So there shouldn't be a problem in the longer run.

What's the difference between Win8.1 and Win8 implementations?
ie why not using an exe file for win8 too / not a dll for win8.1?

It has been said many times. Win8.1 is complete new reimplementation of all objects. Win8 is just re-use of already existing objects + reimplementing of small part of code which reuses that objects.

Hey BM is it possible to implement your bypass theme signature as a stand alone app, I think that on it's own would be a great little tool and it also works with 8.1 and would be great for testing new themes.

Thanks for the explanation. Sorry if I did not carefully read all the questions posed by other users, I only remember reading that 8.1 is using DirectX 11 instead of DirectX 10 although I read most posts here since February :/

Ok, so the installer will be made available in the Windows 8.1 version? That's great! So I'm guessing that they fixed whatever problem was causing the DWM to freeze?

There may not be a release version with Auto installer, because bigmuscle can't find a safe way to load DWMGlass.dll, He's not happy using LoadGlass__AppInit_DLLs.reg, with an Auto installer.

Someone had to bring up the message box issue again, didn't they? Didn't they?

For anyone wanting to complain about the message box, look at the last 87 times someone complained about it:

1. Complaint posted

2. Another 7-35 posts come up about both why everyone hates the messagebox and why they don't mind it.

3. The dust settles and either

   3a. Nothing happens

   or

   3b. Bigmuscle says "no more public prerelease builds."

People, just get over it. If you really hate the message box, then turn off aero glass. It won't kill you to not have glassy windows. But BigMuscle should release this anytime now, so be patient.

I know it takes me a lot of time to release final version. It is almost complete except one thing in 32-bit version which I don't have time for. Thus I decided that firstly I give the final version to all users who donated me to this day - something like a small gift so they don't have to wait forever. Wait for some response from me this afternoon...

This sounds much-much better for me! Just donated; will wait for your "small gift" :) Thanks!

Wow the final version is working without the need of symbols out of the box, with all updates installed. Hope it is backwards compatible, I'll test it out myself later. The performance is good as the code is now purely optimized for Aero Glass. :w00t:

Thanks once again, bigmuscle!

Alright I got the email and I've tried installing it but I'm doing something wrong, what directory do you have to extract all the files too? When I checked the reg file it didn't mention any directory name where I should extract the files.

Sorry, I'm a bit confused here, I can only see one registry file and thats swatches_hkcu.reg, I clicked on that but I don't see anything coming up on the registry. Isn't there meant to be another registry file where it creates the values in the registry, LoadGlass__AppInit_DLLs? It appears to be absent in this version. Sorry if I sound like a noob, but I'm not too familar with registry files and so on.

Apparently BigMuscle has removed even the .reg file that helps automate installation, so you have to be an uber-geek to get it working.  I can't say I blame him for being gunshy about causing people's systems to stop working, but this software actually seems to have failsafe logic beyond what most has.

I'm happy to say that the released version works *perfectly*, using the same technique to load it as before (the AppInit_DLLs value in the registry).

Really great job, BigMuscle!

-Noel

Open notepad and paste these lines:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows]
"LoadAppInit_DLLs"=dword:00000001
"AppInit_DLLs"="C:\\Windows\\DWM\\DWMGlass.dll"
"RequireSignedAppInit_DLLs"=dword:00000000

(don't forget to change a real AeroGlass folder location (I put it under C:\Windows - don't like many folders in the root directory))

Save it under "AeroGlassReg.reg" name and execute with regedit.exe

After that, open task manager and kill process dwm.exe (it will restart shortly), and you allset ;)

Nope, there should not be any other registry file. The link I post describes exact steps how to install this library and it even shows the image with highlighted items which you should set.

The file is not here because you cannot ensure that it will not rewrite already existing values, that user correctly writes double backslashes and it sometimes does not correctly import at all - I don't know why but if I export this registry branch, the file name is encoded as binary string.
