Dear readers.
I already found a topic here about WinPE to RIS but i can't find nowhere how to even start winpe from ris. I've added an image to my ris server and ris comes with an image but when I start it, it goes black! More strange is that when I select the image, it generates a computer name in the AD and keeps doing that. After RIS logon, it does not start automatically when I select the image.
Is there a tutorial of some kind that i can use.
Greetings from holland,
BCrNet.

I just had the same problem. I can choose to boot a Win PE image from my RIS server....but it is *very* slow.
To create my PE image, I followed theses steps (I don't know if it is something recommended by Microsoft) :
* creating a Win XP Image with "risetup.exe -add"
* overwriting the I386 directory just created with the PE I386 directory
* removing some files like drivers I don't use
And my PE image works, it boots. But it is VERY very slow (due to the size of the image, but I can reduce it). For the name of your computer, you can customize it in risetup (if I remember well).
I didn't find any documentation about all of this, or very few. I don't know why it goes so slow...try to remove some files and to wait : tomorrow my PE did'nt boot, after some modifications, it worked. I just changed one thing, but I don't know if it is related to this : I put "msdosinitated" to "0" in the ristndrd.rif file.
(hum, is it obvious I'm french?
)
Edit : it doesn't work anymore...I don't understand at all.
Edit 2 : I don't understand....it didn't work yesterday, it works today, and now it doesn't work anymore....without modifying anything!

I've found something : try to check your DNS/DHCP server! Win 2003 doesn't configure it very well...you can find documentation about this all around the internet.
One URL in French (sorry
) :
http://gilisa.assysm...ddns/config.htm
And for DHCP :
http://gilisa.assysm...fdhcp/index.htm
It is for Win 2000 but it's the same for 2003. Check your DNS logs : you'll see that lots of things happen, and these things are significant. My problem is related to the name of the server, for example (bad configuration for my dhcp server).
Edit : oh, it works just fine, now...from time to time, it doesn't work, but most of time it works! I don't know why....i'm going to check my hardware.
