sndrec32 and sndvol32

These programs are missing from win7. Typical MS, adding multiple GB of stuff that has no discernable purpose and taking out 200KB of programs that were actually useful :P

I was delighted to find that sndrec32.exe from win98 works (has to be from 98, none from NT/2K/XP will work). Mixer wouldn't work right though.

Any alternative for adjusting the volume using keyboard shortcuts?

sndvol is present on my 7 pro

dunno what was so better with *32

they are both mixers...

beside sound graphic manufacturer driver gives so much than windows standard crap

so why use it :P

Oh they went back to calling it just sndvol huh? This one is kind of rubbish, since it can't be minimized and there is no left-right balance control but it is better than nothing :)

yes, but big plus is that you can control sound per application and not just global

There's also a replacement for sndrec32: %SystemRoot%\system32\SoundRecorder.exe

It's pretty barebones though. It doesn't seem to have a hardcoded duration limit for records, but pretty much all the other functions of the old recorder are gone (effects etc.)
