I have an acer travelmate 514 laptop that used to run windows me perfectly but now i have upgraded to xp pro-sp1 the machine does everything perfectly except surf the net, i have tried 2 different internal modems and also a pcmcia modem but it still locks up requiring the machine to be restarted.
I would really like to sort this out as i don't want to have to go back to me from xp.
So what i would like to know is has anybody got a solution to this ie an xp update that may solve this issue or some other fix.
Any help will be greatly appreciated...

Next time please use a clearer topic title.

You shouldn't have UPGRADED from Windows ME to XP Pro, because that leaves a lot of useless "junk" behind. That may be your problem. :)

Gamehead is right... I think u should install XP fresh, ofcourse back up ur data first. After the Install u should download ur updates and internet explorer and ur SP. After that u should be fine. Just make sure that u clear any errors from the Device Manager, install the right drivers for everything and roll!
