Questions about xdot updates and nilite:

Have downloaded UDC-04.20.13 No problems there

Can you copy the .cab files directly into the nilite hot fixes folder so that they will be dealt in exactly the same way as the .exe files? If not what do you do with these files?

E.g.WindowsXP-WindowsMedia-KB952069-v2-x86-ENU.cab

WindowsUpdateAgent7.6.7600.256.cab

What are you meant to do with "IE8-WindowsXP-x86-ENU.OnePiece.7z" ? Do you extract it and put it into the same folder as above?

Thanks very much. Will be happy to donate if I can get this working

okay fine thanks. Have donated via your xdot page through paypal

When you say point nilite towards them you mean in the "hot fixes" section?

Do you need to have Windows genuine advantage set before it importing Internet Explorer etc?

with IE8-WindowsXP-x86-ENU.OnePiece.7z I looked inside with seven zip and noticed there were 2 "rat " files which seemed to have pornography inside them. Is this file and other similar ones completely virus free-have they been checked?

Thanks

1. It's my page. Thanks!

2. Yes. Remember to sort them by date with the oldest first (or no date first). If you're on XP Home you need to move on after sorting. See footnote 11. http://xdot.tk/updates.html#fn11

3. No, you don't need to have WGA before IE8. WGA is included in what you download so you're covered there.

4. I don't do viruses so I can assure you that they are virus free.

okay almost all good

Only further problem I had was when nlite was compiling everything it came up with an error :

Windows service Pack setup has encountered a problem and needs to close

Clicked ok and nlite then carried on

when I installed the resulting ISO there were no error messages or apparent problems.

IE8 had installed successfully but Windows media player was still at version 9-is it supposed to install version 11?

Can you think of any other of your updates that might have done this (didn't get the error when not using your updates)

Hopefully this is the last question. Thanks again

Where you slipstreaming a service pack?

As for the WMP, it all depends on whether you want 11. 9 is fine but if u want to slipstream 11 read this tutorial.

BTW, I updated the UDC script for may early this morning. You should download it and deep extract the files to the current location of your updates. Then run the batch file and it will download only mays updates and move some obsolete files to a folder named obsolete. Then delete the obsolete folder.

Also, please attach your last session.ini.

How did you integrate SP3? I don't see it in the tasks. Manually with the /integrate switch? On a separate nLite run?

You should do another UDC run as I see a lot of files you don't need. Put all your files in one folder instead of 2. Download the UDC I made yesterday and deep extract the files to that D:\zcoz\Windows updates\Critical Updates\ folder and run the UDC batch file. Then upload the last session from the new run so I can see if there are any stragglers.

Oh, and why do you have WindowsMedia9-KB969878-x86-ENU.exe and msxml4-KB954430-enu.exe. Those files are not on a stock XP.

Here's the differences...

Your's is on the left....

Redid integration from scratch - see attached, and everything seems fine now-no error messages when installing to virtual box, All updates seem to have taken.

Had already been slipstreamed with service Pack 3. Can't remember why or when.

The only slight error Was that when opening up Internet Explorer from the desktop it hung and had to reboot- then it was okay.

Suppose I am a little concerned about the Internet Explorer 8 7 zip update because it's coming from somewhere else, even though it was clear on virus scans. would it harm the installation if I removed the two .rat files do you know?

Overall am really happy now - thanks a million

Um, no, the IE8 Add-on is built directly from MS.

There are TWO ".RAT" files and they are specifically for Internet Content Ratings and NOT "pr0n". Inside one (the English one, the other is Chinese) is this Website embedded. Go there and see what it says -

http://www.icra.org/

Inside it specifically says

description "No bare <snip>
I clipped it because MSFN would have blocked the words. The purpose is to allow IE8 to BLOCK that type of content, just like Google allows for it. Inside the IE8.INF file it specifically states
HKCR,"ratfile",,0x00000000,"Rating System File"
Block your "pr0n" or don't within IE8 Controls, up to you. ;)
