As the title says. I have an Nvidia FX5200 with TV-out.
If I connect the S-video cable while the computer is on (and Windows fully started), Windows crashes and just hangs (not even a blue screen).
Is this normal? Is it absolutely mandatory to plug the cable in BEFORE switching the computer on?
What's your experience with TV-out?

go into the :
right click desktop -> properties
settings tab -> avdanced button
troubleshooting tab
drag hardware acceleration slider to FULL (all the way to the right) and see if that works...
also, this might not help or it could... not sure about this situation.
start -> run -> dxdiag
click the display tab.. and enable DirectDraw/Direct3D.
maybe that'll help, or it could have no effect.
things are turned off in 2003 default install.. and maybe that's where the problem lies.. i say this because your system locksup when u plug in the s-video.. which probably means that the system is trying to display out the svideo, but something is holding it back

update directx, check event viewer, try safe mode w/ networking , BIOS update, otherwise i think it might be a hardware issue.

Nope, it's nothing of the kind.
DirectX works fine, hardware acceleration is set to FULL.
I suspect some kind of static discharge when I plug the S-video cable in, which makes the computer hang. Especially since it doesn't even "bluescreen".
I just want some reports of people actually using TV-out with an NVidia card. Have they tried plugging the video cable in after booting up, and does that work, or does it make the computer hang, like in my case?

It could be the static going through the cable that's doing this (there's a lot going through my tv-out cable!)
Turn the TV off completely (not on standby) to get rid of the static completely, then plug in the cable and see if this makes any difference.
Other than that, there isn't much I can help with. I'm an ATI fanboy

merlin i have successfully done this on my dell laptop but i have a nvidia geforce4 440 go. I havent had any problems. Have u checked trying different drivers? Also merlin I would try using w2k3 optimize tool at www.hot.ee/salasource. Run that program and make sure workstation features are on. Otherwise I dont have an idea what it could be.
