This was mentioned in the webcast on Wednesday the 10th of March, watch a recorded version here: http://www200.placeware.com/cc/mseventsbmo...5270&pw=webcast , But my question is they are saying the new versions will be 1.5 (SP2) and 1.6 (2003 SP1) so what happened to 1.3 and 1.4? Anyone got any ideas?

winpe uses the same source tree as retail versions of windows. A new version of winpe simply means the winpe build files are updated and the retail version of files have been updated to include new functionality and fixes. As long as you have the build files you can always make winpe.

End users won't care about new versions of winpe. Fixes in winpe included multiprocessor support and fixing winpe writing to the MBR. In previous versions of winpe you had to use different images for single and multiprocessers, in winpe 1.2 this is fixed. So there's no reason why you would need the latest version of winpe.

:) Actually, I heard there have been vast improvements to the newer versions of WinPE, including built-in WMI support. That in itself is nice already.

Agreed instead of adding the scripting abilities with the OC.bat you could now not worry about it, also they are working on updating the driver support to deal with the SATA issues that are arising, I personally will probably get a three pack when SP2 comes out just for the OPK. They also said it is going to be a major release so I am curious to see the new functionalities they are including.

PS. Thanks Crispy.

The new WinPE will also add the ability to load WinPE to RamDisk via PXE boot. Don't have the details yet, but sounds really nice.

See this broadcast for more WinPE details

Perfect! That's exactly what I was needing!
