well i have find something interesting for users of non-english office verions. follow this process, it's tricky but you will find a solution to reduce the size of office:
start: you got the unattended.mst and administrative installation start shrink48.exe. and copy office\FILES\PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE11\3082\011\SKU011.XML to the target of shrink exe file for example:
C:\office\FILES\PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE11\3082\011\SKU011.XML
to
D:\office\FILES\PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE11\3082\011\SKU011.XML

don't know why installation will fail. i checked my D:\office\FILES\SETUP folder where i found \PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE11\3082\011\SKU011.XML (maybe i copied the file in a wrong place or maybe the installation moved the directory or don't know why).
another time started shrink48.exe and copied:
C:\office\FILES\PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE11\3082\011\SKU011.XML
to
D:\office\FILES\PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE11\3082\011\SKU011.XML

with this, installation started but it didn't find the necessary files, and it asked for the files needed, so it's a lot of work copy everytime every file that installation asks to the target folder but very useful if you are running a minimal installation, asking only for a few files. i think it will help the author (i'm running this method now in the other pc i will upload the logs when i finish it)

EDITED: my logs are here, they show the installation asks for a few files until it needs critical files like EXCEL.EXE and then it shows "retry or cancel"

@simonsays: If you could get me a screen shot of the error box. Either error 1309 or 1308 that would be helpful.

Copying the files on those error messages is exactly what office shrink is supposed to do.

Also the folder is different for different languages.

French: \FILES\PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE11\1036\011\SKU011.XML
German: \FILES\PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE11\1031\011\SKU011.XML
Italian: \FILES\PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE11\1040\011\SKU011.XML

IF anybody else that has another language i will need a screen shot of the error.

ok i whipped this up real quick. This is only to test this is not a final release by any means. This will probably only work for the spanish version. but run it and tell what happens.

Also, for all of the other languages what does microsoft call restart. does it always start with a "R" because if it does this process would be alot easier. I know the spanish version does.

u can imagine how happy i am now it works mostly perfect but... i still have some problems let me explain:
probably files in spanish are stored in the 3082\ folder so office shrink looks them in the english folder and for a few files it displays the error 1308. they're not a lot but a few. i think this is a issue easy to solve and i'm taking note of the files that prompts the error (my installation it's minimal so i'll need to run the full unattended installation and take note of all the files). it's nearly perfect with a few improvements it will be the final spanish office shrink tool

*curious that all the files with 1308 error have the extensions .aw maybe .exe files?? well quickfix it's to copy all the files with extension *.aw from the source office folder \3082\ to target office folder \3082\ also for buckeyeXP here it's the list of files that office shrink tool need to look in that folder (and now for the final version ):

at this time i'm sure: i'm getting crazy with this . when all appears to be solved another time it fails. there are 2 files; office2_Task(0001).txt and office.log are the logs of the office shrink (it still asks for some .aw files in the 3082 folder that it can't find), the other one it's named MyApp Setup(0001)_Task(0002).txt (after giving office shrink the .aw files needed it says "shrinkage complete" and when i try to install unattended it suddenly stops without giving any error, i generate that log file, can u help me??). the problem it's that files are too bigger to upload them to the forum, i'll try to send u by mail and copy the smallest

also i forget 2 things, i found that no taskbar icon is displayed during the process and why this post is not in the member contributed projects??!!

I used both the tools shrinkoffice as well as officeshrink2, both reduced my source to the exact same amount (74.9Mb), both of them gave quite a few errors but i guess its normal cause Officexp is tying to copy the files to one place and at the same time your app is trying to copy it somewhere else . I've done a silent install of the reduced source and it works like a charm .

OK here is the thing. Error Boxes are a good thing. The more error boxes the more files that are copied. i did find a bug though, it should work now.

@simonsays: the error messages should show up and then go away once the file is copied over. The error messages is how the script knows what file to copy.

so try that and send me the logs.

finally shrinkage complete and unattended installation of office2003 spanish complete!! it should work for an unattended full installation but i haven't test it yet. u can now edit the 1st post and add shrink_span as the final version. hope this can help to develop the shrink tool in any language other than spanish simply changing the path to files. finally thanks to buckeyeXP for his interest in the problem (if you still want the logs let me know and i'll send them by mail).

haha. Everyone just wants their own forums now.....
nLite would have caused alittle conflict if it stayed in the Unattended forum, as people woud say that something was wrong with their setup when they used nLite and it was something caused by it. If something goes wrong with the Office isntallation, it's that you used Office Shrink or you're just plain doing it wrong.

you're correct but it would be util to have it in the contributed projects section because there we can put a thread of bugs, another one for improvement or questions or anything, a single thread with all of this and releases will finally be as nLite 60 pages and u can't find anything another time thanks

I just wanted to ask something........... but i thought different languages only have EXTRA files, so Shrink Office would only remove the english version files. ??

OK here it is... Shrink Office development for different languages.

ONLY THE ENGLISH AND SPANISH SETTINGS ARE HARD CODED INTO IT.

Here is what you do...
1.) Run office shrink click "NO" on the option to use the previous setup file.
2.) enter you language. (If it is not listed let me know and i will try to add it)
3.) It should get stuck at an error message. That looks like the attached picture.
4.) Open the shrink.ini file:

dir=1033
retry=&Retry
title=Microsoft Office
error=Error

Change the retry to the text on the middle button... the equivelant of "retry" in the language that you have chosen. be sure to leave the "&" infront of the word

if the word for error is different than error then change that

Change the title to the title of the error window. the first two words are sufficient.

5.) Rerun office shrink and choose to keep the ini settings. It should work.(of corse if it dosent send me the log and a screenshot would be helpful also)
6.) If it works tell me the settings of just send me the office.log or shrink.ini so i can hard code them into the program.
