Has Anyone Been Scammed By Omnitech

Yesterday, my wife called a Microsoft support center number for which she searched on the web. The person who answered siad this was Microsoft. After explaining her problem she was transferred to what she was told was a Microsoft subcontracted support person. SHe spent several hours with them on the phone and gave them remote acces to her computer. After completion of this "service" she was told this was a $249.99 charge, They not only did not repair the computer, but infected it with malware, etc.

Ultimately she did contact the real Microsoft and they informed her that they were not affiliated in any way with Omnitech and subsequently worked with her on her computer.

We are contesting the charge from Omnitech via PayPal and Mastercard and wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Thanks,

Okay with paypal, your basically filing a complaint that a person did not perform a service you payed for. In fact this person was given access your personal information, and abused it by infecting your computer.

If you paid with credit card you can do a charge back, but the bottom line is that the service was not performed, and they mislead you into believing they represented another service.

That is my take on the problem..........

Otherwise you should never give anybody, including Microsoft remote access to your network. If you do, then make sure to reset everything. I don't know about the computer address and all, but remote access is a big no no when dealing with strangers. If you want help with a computer you should go to a small computer shop, who invites you to see what they are doing, to slove the problem. I say this because many big business stores will lie you and tell you that you have a virus, in order to make you buy anti-virus software.

I heard about Omitech, scammers before. I have seen this on the news, were a random company offers you a solution ( usually those ones in the commercials ) and they infect your computer with a bunch of childish viruses, and then sloves your problem and pretend they did something. One angle people say it is legal because your giving them permission to over-look your computer, on the other angle, they are installing all kinds of stuff, just to make a quick buck.
