Depends on whether you have the POS Ready registry hack applied or not.

If you look here it does explain what the files offered actually are.

:)

Dual boot Windows 98SE SP2.1a and Windows XP Professional SP3.
Dual 3.16GHz X5460 Quad Core Xeons with 8GB RAM. Asus AMD Radeon HD5450 Graphics 1920x1080 32 Bit Colour with Large Fonts.

All it says about POS Ready is this:

You can also scan for POSReady updates, because the POSReady trick has been included.

Which is no help at all. What is POS, what is POS Ready? Do I need/want it?

And again, what do I download?

"POS Ready" is a flavor of Windows XP, like you have "XP Embedded" or "XP MCE".

POS Ready continues to receive security updates while it is officially not the case for "Windows XP" (that Microsoft would like the world to ditch). It appears those updates are applicable to the XP most of us still use. You do not need POS Ready but you might want those security updates. The "trick that is included" probably allows you to get those updates as if they were meant for your system.

Indeed so.

If you haven't done the POS Ready tweak, which you obviously haven't as you don't know about it, the file you need is WindowsXP-USP4-NOPOS-x86-ENU.exe.

You can find details of the tweak here.

It allows Windows Update to still offer you the security updates intended for POS Ready (POS is "point of sale", this version of Windows is used on things like self service tills in supermarkets.)

I have had the tweak since EOS for Windows XP back in April, and none of the offered updates have caused me any problems (touch wood!)

:)

please provide your XP SP4 in a ISO format,

Please realize this is only a service pack not a full xp install source you need to have your own XP source to start with. There is no use in a iso of this.

800mb + is huge. could you provide SP4 as a rollup for patches post SP3 alone for those who already have xp sp3 integrated in their XP isos?

please provide your XP SP4 in a ISO format,

The live installer files will extracted in 2 ISOs when the Final Version is released, for use on older systems.

You must slipstream SP4 to your installation media, a CD-ROM installation ISO won't be provided.

Windows XP SP4 great size can be attributed primarily to the MCE2005 files - SP4 updates all previous MCE versions to MCE2005 with Update Rollup 2. In addition, it includes all .NET frameworks and other components which increase SP4 size considerably.

i remember xables used to be 30 mb of only critical updates till end of 2012 when he stopped. 50 mb till EOL would still be ok. is there a light version like xables post sp3 till eol?

Tried the unofficial SP4 via slipstreaming route (using /integrate switch) on a VOLUME edition of XP SP3 source. Then I created a bootable ISO and installed XP from it. Installation went fine until it asked for a product key. It rejected all volume keys; it only took retail keys. Otherwise installation was successful.

Turns out the slipstream process contains retail copies of pidgen.dll and dpcdll.dl_ and overwrite whatever are present in the XP source.

I restored the said files from the original (volume) XP SP3 CD to the integrated source, and retried. This time it recognized volume keys and installation was successful.

This is a known problem when slipstreaming from with a vista + OS. we have experienced that for quite a long while with nlite since sp3 came out.

Thanks for the info about the POS Ready registry hack. I tried it on XP Professional SP3, and suddenly Microsoft Update had a dozen more updates available.

Windows XP Unofficial SP4 Final is now available.

Some files are still uploading and will be available in a few hours. Windows XP SP4 installer is currently available in the form of two ISOs.

IMPORTANT! STOP downloading unless you want to test only!

A new Final version with improved .NET Framework CD-ROM installation will be uploaded soon!

I removed the torrent file and I will replace the GDrive EXE files very soon.

Details: Lodctrs failed in some .NET Framework updates - will change the way .NET Framework lodctr is run during Windows setup, lodctrs will be executed in T13 now!

Will the RC bump the SP number to 4 in System properties and elsewhere?
