Unwanted Search Engine Hijacked My 'home' Button In Firefox

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

An unwanted search engine has hijacked my home button in Firefox 28.0 running on Windows XP SP3. I removed the rogue (Search conduit) from the 'manage search engine' dropdown, but if I hit the home button on the navigation bar, the browser still takes me to search conduit.

Any ideas on how to rid myself of this PITA?

Thanks for any answers in advance.

regards,

Mike

Here are a couple of more items. Also look in the "About Config" (google that if you're unsure of it) -

Yes, it's a PITA - I got that once too. Not sure but there -may- be an extra Extension Folder in your Use Profile. Try an Advanced Search on your HDD for Files named "conduit" and also Files with Text containing "conduit". "Free" stuff sometimes "bundles" this krapware and doesn't even ASK if you want it.

BTW, when did it appear? Look for (Advanced Search) Files/Folders with that exact date - the offenders may (will) be in your User Profile -

C:\Documents and Settings\<YourUserID>\Application Data\Mozilla

C:\Documents and Settings\<YourUserID>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla

edit - BTW, -sometimes- it sghows up in Add/Remove Programs under some "other" name. Clean it!

...and here are some "more" instructions (I don't endorse the Automatic Method program, BTW) -
