Ain't it be a problem for some that kb3118304 have many language-dependent installers?

Should we inform them that they misinformed masses in their blog?

No. All languages are packed in one single installer (31.2Mb). It's quite big but universal.

By the way, Microsoft blogs are full of mistakes and... slyness.

I am probably missing many Office 2007 Compatibility pack updates since March 2015.

Install these 5 updates and try performing automatic update check after:

I should have mentioned that I already installed the NON POS updates released in May and June by MS and posted here by Bersaglio. I installed those a few days ago ... a total of 12 updates.

Windows XP SP3 Updates (06-2017)

01 Security Update for Windows XP SP3 (KB4012598) 05/13/2017

02 Security Update for Windows XP SP3 (KB4012583) 06/10/2017

03 Security Update for Windows XP SP3 (KB4022747) 06/10/2017

04 Cumulative Security Update for IE8 for Windows XP SP3 (KB4018271) 06/10/2017

05 Security Update for Windows XP SP3 (KB4018466) 06/10/2017

06 Security Update for Windows XP SP3 (KB3197835) 06/10/2017

07 Security Update for Windows XP SP3 (KB4024323) 06/10/2017

08 Security Update for Windows XP SP3 (KB4024402) 06/10/2017

09 Security Update for Windows XP SP3 (KB4025218) 06/12/2017

10 Security Update for Windows XP SP3 (KB4019204) 06/10/2017

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If the following updates do not exist, install them.

11 Security Update for Windows XP (KB2705219) 10/08/2012

12 Security Update for Windows XP (KB2347290) 09/13/2010

... and then yesterday I installed:

Office 2007 Compatibility Pack

June 2017

01 KB3127894

02 KB3191828

03 KB3203436

04 KB3203438

I read the post by Dave-H (one hour ago) and he mentions that I may have all the updates I need.

So all these May (1 update) and June updates are installed on my XP system.

Bersaglio and heinoganda ... I will have more time to check out what you posted and experiment later today or tonight.

With what Dave-H posted and with all the June non POS updates installed ... maybe for the little I use MS Office 2000 these days ... the four Office 2007 June updates that I installed may be OK for my setup. I will still try to see if I can get the Windows update working again.

If not, then it's no big deal ... everything in my XP setup is working just fine and I have backups to recover from a failure.

thanks ...

Those 5 updates are everything that You missed from the beginning of 2015. You can install them without any doubt, these updates will not harm Your installation, will not conflict with already installed ones and if at least one is present then it simply refuses to install second time.

OK ... everything is clear now. I have downloaded these five Office updates that you posted earlier.

01 KB2596904

02 KB2825645

03 KB2984938

04 KB3085549

05 KB3191830

Will install them offline ... never expected to be able to get my Office setup updated after no updates since early 2015. It's better than what I had going.

Thanks Bersaglio for the assistance and download links. Thanks also to Dave-H and heinoganda.

Yes, it is as you said ... I already had two of those five updates installed and those updates were not installed again ... but I did need three out of the five. So all is well.

List of updates for .NET Framework on Windows XP after April 2014

Is the NDP40-KB3097994-x86.exe update still necessary? I just remove and reinstall .NET Framework 4 and the WU don't ask for KB3097994 nor KB2979575 that was replaced by it in the past.

The same question for NDP40-KB3037578-x86.exe. WU don't ask for it. And KB2901110 is removed from the WU list after the NDP40-KB3098778-x86.exe installation.

P. S. It seems that all files from KB3037578 are superseded by later updates. But KB3097994 files are more recent than the files in my system after install all updates requested by WU. So i install it also.

P. P. S. It seems that all files from NDP40-KB2938780-x86.exe are superseded also. So the only thing it really does is to add a registry key (which can be added manually):

Quote

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\v4.0.30319

"SchUseStrongCrypto"=dword:00000001

On the one hand, there were updates for the .NET Framework 3.5 and 4 packages which were not offered via AU / WU / MU, on the other hand, several updates were not required by a newer one where MS has not documented! Just open the patch files (ending msp) with 7zip and see if a newer patch the corresponding files are present.

KB4020322 just appeared in the yellow shield.  Any info?

It's just another timezone update. Scince no KB info has apeared yet, I don't know which timezone it refers to, but if it's not for Transnistria, I bet it ought to be just for the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

den - "DST changes in Windows for Haiti and Morocco".  If Google can take streetview snaps of every street on the planet, why can't MS set its clock?  All those people in Haiti and Morocco with the wrong file timestamps !!

Well, maybe I'm being unfair.  Petya might be tearing the world apart, but MS keeps its cool, doesn't lose its focus and gets those time zones right!

There was also an update for IE8
KB4032782

Info:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4032782/a-blank-page-or-404-error-prints-when-you-try-to-print-a-frame-in-ie

Regarding Petya's nemesis since the user should not open each attachment at an e-mail, especially with unknown origin!
It should with older Office versions not be opened attachments with rtf documents! With Wordpad under Windows XP, this gap was closed by KB4014793 in April 2017!

I trust this more:

Just creating a %windir%\perfc file is enough, but for added safety (you never know) also creatre a file %windir%\perfc.dat AND set it as Read Only.
