jim169
Would like to know the best way to clean up local disc so I have more space. Have run microsoft tool to free up disc space, have run CCleaner. I only have 7.02 GB of free space available on local disc. Not sure which files I can safely delete or which programs I don't need. Am not real sure what is taking up so much space. HELP!!!!! SCBright
Try Space Sniffer to see what is eating you disc space. (just a suggestion) "SpaceSniffer is a freeWare (donations are welcome) and portable tool application that lets you understand how folders and files are structured on your disks. By using a Treemap visualization layout, you have immediate perception of where big folders and files are placed on your devices. Treemap concept was invented by Prof. Ben Shneiderman, who kindly permitted the use of his concept into this tool." http://www.uderzo.it/main_products/space_sniffer/ When you found the big files that are eaten up your space, you can delete it. MagicAndre1981
I prefer TreeSizeFree to see the sizes of folders/files: http://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free/
jaclaz
A good idea would be to run a program *like* the good ol' SequoiaView to check what actually occupies the space:http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=402 Also knowing the size of the disk and of the partition hosting your system would help. jaclaz
kaljukass
Tell a little about your computer, otherwise you can not say anything. What is at all installed, what's the hard drive default size, how many partitions you have made, Have you there also some backups on the same hard disk, have you (ever)delete old restore points, how much of space for restore points is reserved, have you deleted old Windows temporary files, which windows makes before installing updates, etc...I'm sorry, I stayed a little late. ZortMcGort11
Try using Disktective for getting a clearer picture. It shows a pie chart of every folder on your computer, and how much space is used... you can see where all your data is being stored, and what is being stored. Simply a diagnostic tool. http://www.disktective.com/
submix8c
FYI - CCleaner does NOT empty the -contents- of the User's TEMP folder and it WILL get "filled up" by installs/uninstalls/etc. That's an "Other Folders" option that you have to enter the FolderName in. You can delete manually by -first- "unhiding" the folder(s) -https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100510224402AAtI58tThen delete the CONTENTS (not the TEMP folder itself) -http://appscout.pcmag.com/microsoft-windows/272405-find-the-temp-folder-in-vista-and-windows-7Note the above link also tells you to "unhide" so you can access them. ALSO note it's a wise idea to -1 - add the Folder Name to CCleaner "Options"->"Include" and add the following:C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\*.*Note the <username> is to be replaced with what the above link info tells you when you find it.2 - reset/reverse the "hidden" option within Windows 7, as the above link indicates.3 - Run CCleaner occasionally. Your settings will "stick" so no need to repeat any of the the above processes. HTH
