dajhorn
Microsoft Security Essentials can be installed on POSReady 2009 by merging the attached stub into the registry. This resolves MSSE installation error 0x8004FF04. Edited June 2, 2014 by Tripredacus
Tripredacus
Don't like the idea of posting a .reg file to a post. Here is the key: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ; This empty registry key lets Microsoft Security Essentials install on POSReady 2009. ; Tested with ENUS\x86\MSEInstall.exe version 4.5.216.0 published 2014-04-08 downloaded ; from http://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=5201 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Microsoft Security Client]
Ltfp
Also works well for XP patched as Posready 2009, clean re-installs after 18 April will not allow MSE install without this.
Fallingwater
I happened across this thread from a Google search. This method doesn't seem to work any longer, or at least it doesn't for me (just installed POSReady 2009 on an old EeePC). I tried the Ninite installer hoping it'd bypass the official requirements, but no. Is there any other known workaround? submix8c
Do you have the correct version? Please read these threads:http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171498-need-microsoft-security-essentials-grab-it-now/http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171659-bug-in-microsoft-security-essentials-downs-windows-xp-machines/Also note that the link given in the REG entry leads you to a newer version that *apparently* is for Vista/Win7? Please note that regardless of Support for POSReady2009, it's *still* (basically) XP. HTH, and good luck.
