I didn't find much in the way of special privacy features, but it did look interesting that it has a built-in video downloader. The option to stop all GIF animations might come in handy, depending on how quickly it can be enabled/disabled compared to, say, Internet Explorer. (Don't know how it compares to Chrome in that regard... or any other regard, for that matter. )

 

(Note that I'm asking for opinions about this browser, not endorsing it.)

Not at all , I see no particular raison d'être for this browser limited to my uses of a browser, I am pretty sure that lots of people would not be able to live without features such as:

Instant photo upload

Automatically shrink photo to decimate photo uploading time.

Photo salon

Frame and enhance photos right before they are uploaded.

 

Weather condition and forecast

Give current weather condition right on the toolbar. 7-day forecast information is one-click away.

 

 

I asked which one you found interesting and you pointed out the built-in video downloader, which is - like everyone else's - a very good reason. but  - since I very rarely (if ever) happen to actually download a video, it doesn't apply to me.

 

From the number and kind of features it offers it seems to me like it offers REDUCED security/privacy oriented settings, you know, like:

Share your online activities on facebook with a single click

 

 

Integrate with popular web services

I did download Slimjet 1.1.1 portable on 8/10, but it didn't run on my extended 98se machine so I didn't post about it.  It is on my radar, however, as one of many new browsers I've been testing this month.

 

Slimjet is powered by Blink, whereas Slimboat is powered by QTWebkit4 and Slimbrowser is powered by IE.  Perhaps the target audience is Slimboat users who want Blink features not available in QTWebkit4/5 or IE.

 

 

Just now noticed that the Slimbrowser download page says: "Don't like IE's engine? Check out our new Slimjet Web Browser based on Blink engine with better support for plugins and extensions."

I'm not enough of a techie to know what the differences are between Blink, QTWebkit, or whatever it is that IE uses, or why those differences might be important. Maybe as a result I'm having a real hard time understanding what practical difference there might be between these three "Slim" browsers (-boat, -jet, -browser). They all sound pretty much the same to my untrained mind.

 

There were, though, a couple of things that stood out for me. First, Slimbrowser is billed as an "enhancement" rather than a replacement for IE. On the other hand, Slimboat has a neat feature where you can save a collection of websites together, and then open them together next time you launch the browser. (Don't know if other browsers have this capability.)
