Allready posted @ Windows 10 BuildIn Feedbackfunction: -> Personalisation -> Other Problems - like it there if you agree !

i spend a lot of time to finish this detailed Feedback !

Update: 5.2.2015

Before we begin:

Design info: There a 7 Types of Users (i see) with different needs, none of them wanna be forgotten !

- Tablet Small View

- Tablet Big View (for people who cant see so good anymore),

- Desktop Minimalistic Version - for people who sit close to the Screen

- Desktop Middle Version for people using BIG TV

- Desktop Big Version (for people who cant see so good anymore)

- Audio Control for Blind People

- Visualized Sound Alert for Deaf People

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, lets Start:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shell/Design: Give me please

1a) Explorer Tabs (like QTTabBar_XP see Pic)

1b) AlwaysOnTop-Button (like QTTabBar_XP see Pic)

1c) Folder Icon Color (like Icolorfolder_XP see Pic)

1d) Folder Background Picture via Desktop.ini (see Pic from XP)

1e) .msstyles reactivation, with UxTheme Patch for Community .msstyles

1f) Aero Glass (Transparent window Boarders)

1g) Possibility to mark Files with a color via Entry in Desktop.ini (in this way its possible to remember things like in books with colored paper stripes, and color marker)

1h) Active Desktop (it took me a long long time to build 3 different unfinished HTML desktops who have interaction with the background picture, build in Mediaplayer, quick notes etc...)

1i) Library's: Get Rid of Music, Pictures, Own Files, and all that crap - Clever People don't like saving Files on Systempartition ! (Or: Let the user Choose where this Folders are Stored Physical !)

1j) Small Icons Everywhere (Close, Minimize, Maximize Buttons are to big) - msstyles support should fix it (**** MS there is a whole Community on Deskmodder, Deviantart, and much more, and in every Windows Version they try to made it perfect - but YOU make it so hard for us Users - to Personalize Everything - its like you throw a tree between our legs....)

1k) Need CLASSIC START MENU and DESIGN ! (that Startmenu who takes 40% of my Desktop PC Screen is a funny joke - you cant mean that serious !)

1l) Fade/Dimm Everything except the Active Window (means that always the Active Windows is Highlighted - see Ghoster v1.2 from "Skrommel")

post-395354-0-46479600-1422971107_thumb.

File system: Change Please

2a) Optional install on exFAT File System for Users who don't like Junctionpoints & Rightsmanagement & FileLocking

Reasons:

- NTFS JunctionPoints/Hardlinks: I cant trust File-trees anymore: Now, the Explorer get a long Nose like Pinocchio ! (File-trees was such a big step in the Computer History, Logic like a good sorted Library... - but now, its gone...)

If it is really Necessary for Old Programs you can Plug-IN a Mountpoint via Subst.exe in Application Compatibility - there is no need for Hardlinks !

- Rightsmanagement sucks !: I got the Message so often, and i don't know how, but i even get problems on a Fat32 Windows Xp, when i copied files from the Win7 64 NTFS Laptop - sometimes it glues like s*** on the shoes...

2b) FileLocking: I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate it !!!!!!!!!! (just to be clear at this point - i don't like to restart my PC cause i wanna delete a file who is used by explorer.exe) (probably fixed see Post 5 - big thx !!!)

2c) File/Harddrive Encryption with Options of Choosing Encryption Format and Rate (SHA512, ...)

2d) Reduce your 50.000 Folders (with 4 Files per Folder) to a maximum of 99 Folders - big thx !

2e) If Windows Setup is installed on a SSD there should be the Option to make a RamDisk (Unlimited + Hybridoption) for Temp Files (Browsing, Updates, Extraction, should not destroy the SSD Life !)

2f) NEED ciadv.msc to put out Harddrives completely from Indexservice

2g) Search is Terrible ! (i like the Advanced Search from Windows Xp without Assistant - i don't wanna search in Internet with this tool (for Internet i use a Browser !!!) - and i don't wanna wait ! - got a SSD here ! - The Thirdparty Tool Agent Ransack is able to find good and quickly - but normally i really prefer that XP Search ! (the Quick Search in Windows Explorer for the active Folder is fine, but QTTabbar on XP did it better !)

Localization

3a) Please take the: FALL-BACK ON ERROR Language out of the Files - and move it to mui files as the others (or go back to real localized version)

3b) Don't Translate Foldernames ! Its totally weird that i cant trust the Name of a Folder ! (or Localize them although !)

Compiling the Source Code - A clean Compiled Code (save up to 70% per file !!!), where following is removed:

4a) Comments (the ; Comments are not for Normal Users, so there is not need to be compiled !)

4b) Doubled vacancies, doubled blank lines, vacancies on end of line, Tabulators (no need for this !)

4c) Color Palette Optimizations (a Pic with 4 Colors and a Alphachannel don't need to be saved with a 16,7 Mio Color Palette !

4d) Doubled Ico/Cur/Gif/Ani/Wav/Png/Bmp/Avi Files (thousands of doubled resources blow up the OS Size like a balloon)

If you delete doubled Resources, you need a dll Library like Shell32.dll (its impossible without using a Library file) - an it would be Perfect when this file get Permission to be Modified, and if its Documented which Icon is for what... (for easy Shellpack making like FlyAKite - people would love it !!!)

Setup

5a) More Options for Personal Install and for Choosing what Apps are needed: Newsmessage, Weather, OneDrive, .... - i really don't need it !

5b) Wim Image & Mounting: it tooks hours, days, months, years - everytime i try to change the Wim Image it feels like starving ! - The old inf based setup was soooo much better, and easier to be changed...

Bootoptions , Logon & Security needs:

6a) Boot Windows in a Write Protected mode like Embedded Standard 2009 did with advanced NTLDR & EFW [Enhanced File Writer] by creating a temp file on a disk or ramdisk

6b) Boot Registry Write Protected Mode like Embedded Standard 2009 did with the /MINNT Bootflag by creating a temp file on a disk or ramdisk

6c) A Complete Sandboxed UserAccount for Testing Software, Installers, or Secure Internet Browsing !

6d) Browserhjacking Stop ! (No Software should be allowed to Open the Standard Browser, and call a url address ! There Should be an Exact Warning Message, like: MCP.EXE is trying to Open: www.PutFlintIntoTheLaser.com ! - Would you like to open it ? Yes / No

6e) Better Outbound Control and Alert for Windows Firewall ! If whatever try´s to call out or in, i wanna be asked and be able to make a rule for it (like the Invictus XP Kerio Firewall 2.1.5)

6f) Need a Firewall PresetProfile for Windows Update !

Sound

7a) AC3 & SPDIF Options/Filter/Codecs: Some people get problems with SPDIF Passtrough via Cinch or Toslink - means: no Dolby Digital 5.1 when playing a DD 5.1 DVD in Media Player

7b) Better Mididatabank (at least 8MB - the inbound Library doesn´t Sound good, and it seems that no one have worked on that since Windows 3.0) - Don't forget Reactivate the Midi Interface !

"Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controllers (APIC)"

8a) Some tools i use need APIC Support ... so put it in the Multiprocessor Kernel please

USB

9a) Got the Problem that USB Harddrives don't stop spinning even when i do that unnecessary secure disconnect (i know that you just need it when you have enabled the cache on it...) - so i need something similar like the PARK Command from DOS 5.0 to be sure that the Harddiskhead is Parked well, and i need to send a extra SPINDOWN (if this is not part of the park Command) - pluggin out cables from spinning harddrives i really don't like !

9b) FORCE DISCONNECT for USB Devices - or report me exactly which handle/pid/thread looks it, and why, and how to force a Process termination !

Energy

10a) Sometime the Energyscheme decides to send a sleep state while the CPU is on 100% utilization - when a rendering Program needs hours or day to be calculated, i am leaving the PC and don´t move the mouse anymore, and then windows start the sleep state ! I can change it, when using another Powerprofile, - but this means - that the PC doesn't go to sleep, - even when the work is done... (Green Energy is not so cheap in Germany !!!)

10b) I even need a dynamic Energyscheme (means on idle the PC has to use the absolute possible minimum Energy, but when its working at 100% i wanna have all the Power i have paid for !)

Paint

11a) Give it some "Levels" like PS and add a better Selection Utility

Photoviewer

12a) Where is the Option to take Pic as Desktopbackground ?

Windows Media Player

13a) Please put back the wmpband.dll to get a wmp control in the taskbar

Windows 10 Technical Preview 9926 (2 Updates) Errors & Problems:

11a) Got Problems with Energy Saving ! - Sometimes the PC decide to sleep - but it failed to send the PowerOFF Signal to the Mainboard, - other times it work well - but after a couple of Min's PC starts again by itself (and things like WakeOnLan, etc are all deactivated in my BIOS settings...- found a solution for the restarting in the energieoptions...)

11b) Since Yesterday i have Problems with Windows Update (0x80070057) (i changed something on the firewall settings (Only DHCP, DNS, Support, Feedback, Windows Update and Opera got Permissions to call out, Rest of ICMP, IGMP, TCP, & UDP is blocked); - but even if i got back to standard rules i got this Error Message seems they tok the destroying update out, yesterday...

11c) Sometimes a System Properties Page (Localization was last one) hangs, when this happens the Explorer got Problems to, and the Startmenu doesn't working anymore, a restart of the explorer.exe and the Profile Account doesn't fix it -

whole PC restart is needed !

11d) The Search in the Start Menu just find a inactive Windows Update link (is it anywhere else than in the Action Center ?)

11e) PhysX cant be Installed on AMD (for CPU PhysX)

11f) 32 Bit BMP Codec is Broken (Prewiev cant open them, Paint does strange things with some Colorchannels...)

11g ) Problem of Jumping/Scrolling Themes and Pics when you wanna change it

11h) - After i tryed to repair Windows Update with a BatchFix for Windows 7 - ive destroyed Startmenu and Action Center completely - **** need complete reinstall....

11e) I did a repair installation (old windows ist moved to windows.old) - after that i could not log in (password was acepted only when i am plug in the internet) and it seems i boke something with this (Guestaccount as example...)

11f) The firewallrules you get when create a new user, are different to them you get after install, and different to the standard rules - and all of them are mostly bad configurated

11g) If you create a new user Account and log into it, - all firewall rules (even in your main account) - will be overwritten !!!

Soooo, thats it !!! - i will update some errors and ideas from time to time (not all of them cause i got errors and ideas every minute; - sorry that my english isnt perfect (got some quality loose - i know) - but i really have to do this, in the delevopers language...

That's a lot of stuff! I agree that finding the correct product for the elderly (those who cannot see so well) is difficult with today's product offerings. Long gone seems to be the days of XP where you could have gigantic icons and text.

I notice your list of user types is missing software developers who use multiple monitors! :}

- sorry i was thinking much about everything to get a "complete" list - in some ways multimonitor users are not forgotten by me - cause the monitors have a size and a distanze to you...

- Gamecoders would use 1 Big File With Alpha Channel, to texture whole windows with one 1024x1024 pic - that contains all icons and is easy changeable... ;)

But you can add wishes to my topic in the Inbuild Preview Feedback ( i even send more problems / ideas to ms then this ;) - its a beta - and i really try to blow up their quality - they said by themselfs that they wanna make a windows that everyone loves - and this includes me - so i will give them as much critic as i am able to - cause i need a good OS (if they fail - i will stay on lovely XP or will buy a used Server 2003 R2)

Assuming it really is Explorer that's got hold of your files, there's a very specific fix for this that works on all versions of Windows...  It's not even really a workaround any more, since no program that I know of uses Thumbs.db files for anything.  I agree Microsoft should change the configuration of the system to make this the default:

I try different regtweaks to got rid of that in the past... - if your posted solution fix that - youre kind of a hero ;)

- but the question is why the explorer wanna make thumbs.db file for .exe files ? did it try to load the inside icons of exe files to the thumbs.db chache, and fail at this mission, cause the thumb.db handler or whatever cant read resourcefiles out of exe ?

You didn't consider "plain stupidity" (which often and lately more often than before when MS is involved is a likely reason/explanation).

With each new version of Windows Microsoft is hell bent on being more for "dummies" protecting them from stupidity and less and less for the more tech savvy folks like us. Maybe they need a dumb version and a smart version.

I have never had a problem manipulating a folder in all the years since I've been applying that tweak (which I do whenever I'm setting up a system), so I hope it does solve it for you.  It is definitely effective.

I believe there must have been some significant application software package(s) at one time that made use of the thumbnails that Microsoft would put in the thumbs.db files.  When Microsoft migrated their systems to use central thumbnail databases they left the logic in place that would generate the thumbs.db files so as not to make the newer system actively incompatible with the old application(s).  Much as we complain about Microsoft, they HAVE made a priority out of compatibility.  Perhaps they even lost or settled a lawsuit that forced this, I don't know.  But I do know that the above policy setting does reduce the amount of unnecessary work Explorer does, and my thumbnails work great...  I've been running Windows systems hard since Vista with it, and there's been no downside.

AFAIK/AFAICR thumbs.db are CACHED thumbnails, on XP, on a slow device with hundreds/thousands of pictures/movies in a same directory it may (please read as will) make a difference.

http://faster-pc.net/related/english/getting-rid-thumbsdb/

in other words it is not about compatibility with *any* given app/program but a way to speed up the visualization of the folder in Explorer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_thumbnail_cache

or - if you prefer - the good MS guys were pretty much selfish and not in any way "keeping compatibility" with anything else, just trying to make their own Explorer  (thumbnail/image) viewing faster....

And - strangely enough - the Group Policy/Registry setting is documented:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2025703

Thumbs.db is not read by Explorer since Vista.  There are central databases for thumbnails now.

I think you might be mistaken. Quoting from jaclaz's last link:

Renaming a network folder in Windows 7 Explorer fails with "the action can't be completed..."

...

The folder rename operation fails because thumbcache.dll still has an open handle to the local thumbs.db file and does not currently implement a mechanism to release the handle to the file in a more dynamic and timely fashion.

Unless I read that wrong, it seems that, unless the default behavior is changed like you always do, then Windows Explorer still utilizes "the local thumbs.db", but I could be wrong. :)

Cheers and Regards

It's possible I suppose.  I read that more as "Thumbcache.dll is writing to thumbs.db".

But I admit to not having looked at the system with ProcMon for that particular usage to try to derive what's going on.  I don't seem to have a reduced thumbnail display experience, but that may be because I have a powerful system.  In any case, the system simply works much better without any Thumbs.db files being generated.

You could very well be correct as to "reading" vs "writing".  But then if Win7 no longer reads thumbs.db, then why would it bother to write to it?  I guess it is it probably just one more in the looong list of "stooopid" things that MS has done lately.  And no argument about it working better without it. :)

Cheers and Regards

sounds very good - but i havn´t test it until now (sorry) - i believe that this fix work, so big thx !!! - if this "tweak" is not allready in NTLite, we really have to tell nuhi ;)

I mostly run on XP, cause i dont like wim images - one little error in a xml file break the whole setup...

From time to time i try to create a "Perfect" Wim image - but all this comparing of files, version, tweaking, batch or autoitwriting - its like hell !!! (like starving - i allready wrote... - to much work...) - i prefer that ms give us the option to install a well compiled resourcecleaned error free Version - since steve balmer isnt the chief anymore - it must be possible...
