Maelstorm
I've been looking through the files of a WinPE 3.0 and for the life of me, I cannot seem to find where WinPE starts setup which installs Windows. Now I know about cmdlines.txt, winpeshl.ini, and the registry key HKLM\System\Setup that runs winpeshl.exe. So, from boot.wim, how does windows setup get started? JFX
If winpeshl.exe doesn't find a winpeshl.ini file it will start windows setup by running %SystemDrive%\setup.exe.
jedixo
Created an account just to help you.If you are using the boot.wim from a windows setup dvd then there are 2 images inside that wim file. The first image winre and is not booted to by default. I just delete it if I'm creating a PE from the setup, then I mount the second (now first) image and delete the setup.exe from the root. Once the image is saved it will boot to the command prompt instead of setup. Edited July 14, 2015 by jedixo
