vinifera
so certain components are needed for Recovery to work these are mainly, Restore, Volume Shadow Copy, WinRe(.wim) but even with that, when I deleted certain sys files, recovery failed to do any repair... so my question is, does Recovery rely on winsxs\Backup folder ? Tripredacus
Can you be more specific as to what "Recovery" means for you? What I think of as Recovery in Windows 7 does not match the description of what you have posted.
vinifera
when it reboots and you choose recovery via black screen and then it boots via PE mode in its recovery version of UI to "detect and repair" things
Tripredacus
Is it on this screen? This is Recenv.exe in this picture. Personally I only ever use command prompt on it, but have seen Startup Repair work once or twice.

Tripredacus
Recenv.exe is the default thing to open if you press F8 and then Repair your Computer. If you are seeing something else then you have something custom. If you can put up a picture of it, it might help for others to know exactly what you mean. Tripredacus
Oh I thought so. Yes Startup Repair does not always work, even though it tries. It only works in specific situations but it is quite easy to damage the OS in a way so that Startup Repair will always fail. It looks to be that Startup Repair creates a log file. Maybe this will be helpful for your exact situation.https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744291(v=ws.10).aspx
vinifera
oh man... now I see why it is so useless haha btw, there on list says (among other things) "Complete PC Restore (to restore from a volume backup image)" where is this volume backup stored ? or user has to do it himself ? Tripredacus
Yes, the third option in the picture, restore system image. I have not used that before either, but I have read and I think it uses the system image you can make from within the OS. This page talks about it (and has a Silverlight video lol) http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/back-up-programs-system-settings-files#1TC=windows-
