Disk format for HP laserjets?

Asp

Recommended Posts

I've just got a used HP Laserjet 2420. One feature that got me excited is that it has a slot for Compact Flash to be used as persistent storage (fonts, etc).
I put one in but it comes up as "uninitialized".

The printer can't initialize it, the only way I can find is to use HP's JetAdmin software from the host PC. But the only version I can find on HP's site, or anywhere else, is 10.x, the latest, which requires Windows 7 -- and I'm running XP.

So does anyone have an XP version?
Alternatively, does anyone know what disk format HP uses on its laserjets? I assume it would be the same for hard disks or flash.

The card I have is FAT. I could take it out and format it on a PC in whatever format if it's a standard one, like Linux EXT3, etc.
I found a Xerox utility that should be able to load fonts once the disk is recognised.

Thanks! I had found a ref to "wja72-2305-win.exe" but that only gave dead links. Trying to guess the filename either gave millions of hits or none.

Now I'll see it if it actually does the job....
