Hello All,

I am interested in buying a new monitor (CRT) as i can't afford a lcd at moment,
i was on HP website and there are some monitors i like, what i want to know is what are the things we should look for when buying a monitor i mean technical specs.

thats it says in the display specification on their site
Resolution 1600 x 1200 @ 65 Hz, preferred flicker free resolution 1024x768 @ 85Hz

Display, Maximum Pixel Rate 180 MHz

pixel pitch 0.22 mm

Recommended resolution 1600x1200 @ 65 Hz

Display resolution 1280x1024 @75Hz

Refresh response time CRT: not applicable

Horizontal scan rates Horizontal frequency: 30-86 kHz, vertical frequency: 50-140 kHz

Display size 17 inch diagonal

Surface treatment Flat faced with a horizontal dot pitch 0.22 to 0.24 mm with anti-glare and anti-static CRT

faceplate treatment with anti glare and anti static

is this good and what are the points to look for?

Thanks and regards
Mutahir

well you dont necessary buy from a big company.. most of the there more expensive then generic products that can do the same job..
anti-glare and anti-static would be good.. of course less glare and no static like an old tv :) resolution is your screen size, for eg "65 Hz" will take longer to refresh your monitor and may notice flickering, higher than HZ, the better the quality..

Viewsonic, Phillips, and a couple of other companies make great Monitors. I prefer Viewsonic, they have outlasted time and abuse here at my job. so... I would go with them.

I prefer samsung
I personally don't like anything that philips makes...
viewsonic okay, Nec was ranked the 1st for a long while on chip magazine.. but i don't really trust chip.
checkout tomshardware...

and don't buy hp monitor (if they even have one) I personally buy printers from them. their laptops suck! as well as compaq stuff...
