I made my unattended install cd. I started it up, and it stopped at the "Installing Windows" part. The exact error is...

The file 'asms' on Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1 CD is needed.

Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK.

I've read the required MS KB article, but when i push Shift+F10, and type regedit.exe I get this error...

The system cannot execute the specified program.

I put in the original OS CD, and pointed the path to where the asms folder is, and it wont work still. The only problem I can think of, is in my WINNT.sif file on my unattended install CD, I only have the name for my SATA RAID HD, as 'OEM', and I dont have any IDE controllers as 'Retail'. Here is what my Winnt.sif looks like.

Some how I managed to get an F6 Install to work on the first try. So I'm starting over from scratch. Please help me, I want to get my Unattended CD working.

MassStorageDrivers in the $OEM$ folder do not work properly

it's never worked to my knowledge, hence everyone adding them through txtsetup.sif or whatever its called...

i've never seen this asms error... maybe put a fresh copy of the ASMS folder back into I386

ASMS is almost always due to a bad burn, so reburn at like 4x and see what happens. hth

bad burn or bad image it was burned from....

I've gotten this on a few of my Multiboot discs.....

@Alanoll - do you know if they fixed the $OEM$ MassStorageDrivers usage for SP2? I remember that previously it has never worked (I think you told me this)

i dunno....
it might, it might not.
they were supposed to include quite a number of things in SP2 that ended up being removed for the more security type features.....

I know awhile back Spheris (works for MS) had a few of us work on coming up with as many errors using that method as possible....

hopefully Spheris was on the "find as many existing bugs" team so that they knew what to update in SP2

mind you though, I think the way we are doing the sata/raid drivers now is quite easy and straight forward... i do all mine by hand

Awsome! thanks guys. I think it was burned @ 12x before, so i'll burn it at 4x this next time. This problem is virtually impossable to find anything for on the net. Except for the work around that MS gives, but that didnt work for me.

I got this error twice:
the first time my CD drive was dirty. Blowing air in it did the job.
Right now I'm struggling with this error again, on the same computer. I tryed to air thing but it didn't worked. I switched drives with another dvd and its launched. I don't know if it will work. The cd is a 650MB Sony CD-RW (4x-10x) written at 10X. I'm burning another one (not a sony) at 4x. Will post back if that worked...

I just went to chekc the computer. After switching drivers, it is installing, with the same CD. So the problem is surely the drive (dust).

I'll see tomorow if it was installed correctly. If not I'll do it again with the new CD I made.
