Could someone paste an example of an $$Rename.txt and the location of it. I have tried sometimes, but I do not have VirtualPC/VMWare, so it takes me forever to reinstall a machine just to find out that it didn't work.

Thanks.

Here's mine. The entries may not make any sense, since they are things for my office. But it should give you an idea how it works:

[\WINNT\ZAWSYS]
SetupM~1.exe="SetupMsgBox.exe"
SetupM~2.exe="SetupMsgBoxDriver.exe"
Suppor~1.LNK="Support Information.LNK"
Zawntm~1.bat="Zawntmenu.bat"

Make sure you put it in the \$oem$\$1 folder.

This looks good enough for me.
I'm reinstalling now.....I'll paste the result when it's done.

real funny
quoting from what u said I'm telling u to get the vpc or vmware
and asking u why u'd not get them and complain about things being so slow

got it?

save your clever words to yourself.

Ok this is probably going to be a stupid question but what does this do?

[\WINNT\ZAWSYS]
SetupM~1.exe="SetupMsgBox.exe"
SetupM~2.exe="SetupMsgBoxDriver.exe"
Suppor~1.LNK="Support Information.LNK"
Zawntm~1.bat="Zawntmenu.bat"

I am figuring $$Rename.txt is going to rename something but I don't understand what or why.

Thanks

I did a quick search on Google and came up with this page from Microsoft.

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documen...icb_ui_wbgu.asp

I only quickly scanned through it, but it all has to do with running winnt.exe to install Windows from DOS. Since DOS doesn't recognize long filenames it trunkates them all. The setup program will look for a $$Rename.txt in a folder (any folder if I understand correctly) and then it renames the trunkacted files in that folder back to the long filenames they're supposed to have.
