Problems with Winnt.sif not being properly used

First, see my winnt.sif:

Except for the ProductKey, this file is identical to the one I actually use in my setup. As you can see, I'm not making my setup completely unattended (UnattendMode=ProvideDefault) and this is my intention, as this is just going to be my WinXP CD, just SP2 integrated. However, since my XP is bought in the US, it has certain defaults that I'd like to change. Among others, I'd like the Time Zone to be my own, the Keyboard setting to be my own, and so forth. Plus I'd like another Theme than Luna, and some components removed. This file worked quite nicely.. I get my keyboard setting right.. I got the theme I wanted... but some things did not work, unfortunately.

First of all, during setup, I still got presented with the GMT-8 timezone, even though you can clearly see that I have defined it differently:

[GuiUnattended]
   EncryptedAdminPassword=NO
   OEMSkipRegional=1
   TimeZone=110

Then, I got asked if I wanted to activate Automatic Updates or not (during OOBE session) even though the ref.chm says that this setting:

[Data]
   AutoPartition=0
   AutomaticUpdates=1
   MsDosInitiated="0"
   UnattendedInstall="Yes"

should skip that part:

AutomaticUpdates=1

Enables Automatic Updates. The Help Protect Your PC page does not display. Windows routinely verifies the latest important updates and installs them automatically.

should not display that page.

Furthermore, MSN Explorer (or, well, just MSN...) is still showing up on my desktop and in my start menu. The same is Accesibility.

Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong?

People never answer my questions... I really wonder why. Am I not being clear enough about the matter? Nearly 50 views, and nobody replies. I've gotta be doing something wrong. Especially concerning that this is a very common problem (Winnt.sif issue) there should be many people who should be able to help me.

Sorry for being "aggressive" about demanding an answer, but I really really need one quickly.

Here is mine if it helps any. It is fully unattended and I always copy it to a floppy disk for setup to find instead of burning it to the CD (so I can make changes to it or choose not to use it).

This may help you.

This part is a sample of my WINNT.SIF which changes all my regional settings to English - Australia. It also correctly specifies my timezone to 255 A.U.S. Eastern Standard Time (GMT+10:00) Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney

[RegionalSettings]
LanguageGroup=1
UserLocale=00000c09
InputLocale=0c09:00000409
InputLocale_DefaultUser=0c09:00000409
SystemLocale=0c09
UserLocale=0c09
UserLocale_DefaultUser=0c09

My Timezone is 255 A.U.S. Eastern Standard Time (GMT+10:00) Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney

This is a sample of my settings of the Gui Unattended Section.

[GuiUnattended]
AdminPassword=""
EncryptedAdminPassword=NO
OEMSkipRegional=1
TimeZone=255
OemSkipWelcome=1

First of all, during setup, I still got presented with the GMT-8 timezone, even though you can clearly see that I have defined it differently:

You had
Timezone=110
, which is (GMT+01:00) Amsterdam, Berlin, Bern, Rome, Stockholm, Vienna

Adjust you locale and add it to the regional settings section (as above).

:):rolleyes: Pete

Sorry DarkPhoenix, I do not wish to hijack your thread, but I am having exactly the same problem (at the very least this will bump you :P ).

My winnt.sif does everything else I wish, but refuses point blank to set the TimeZone to GMT (085). I do not have a copy of the file to hand at the moment, but trust me, it is written correctly.

I am now wondering if there is another possible reason for the error. I am using a corporate XP SP1 disc, to which I have slipstreamed SP2. It all works fine apart from the TimeZone, which insists on defaulting to the Pacific Region (Windows default).

Anybodyelse got any ideas?? Please!!

Thanks.

The problem with timezone and components not taking effect is because of UnattendMode=ProvideDefault. Don't ask me why, I have no idea why it does this. Try using DefaultHide instead, it should work similary to ProvideDefault, as long as you remove entries in winnt.sif that you want to be prompted for.
