ok i used the tutorial posted in there and the only problem i ran into was mysql not installing into /wwwroot/mysql but instead into /wwwroot but i know why that happened. what my problem now is that ill startup mysql and it will say "./mysqld ready for connections" but then i try to connect to if, say with Invisionboard setup (or any other program that tries to connect to it) and i get this error:
mySQL error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)
mySQL error code: 2002
Date: Monday 19th of August 2002 05:15:31 PM
any ideas on how to fix this?

Some times entering 127.0.0.1 or localhost wont work, so for the setup script try entering your LAN ip or if you have a direct connection, your WAN ip.

Btw, if all else fails you can always install the RPM from ( http://www.rpmfind.net ), because some extra settings may be needed for MySQL on Redhat. It does not matter where you install it, just ask long as all its files are intact.
