it is not old news. the difference in file size of the winzip 9 SR-1 old and new is 400 kb.

It's the worst existing compression utility on the market.
Why give it's money to Winzip Computing when there are freeware quite as effective?
you can try TUGZip - the free Archiving Utility
with the same functions as the worst and more but freeware.
My favourite is iceows for explorer integration without an external program.
And 7zip for highest compression ratio in new 7z format.
And if you want to buy a compression utility :WinRAR... All-in-one

Well, my office has an enterprise license, so I might as well install it.
FYI -- the unattended installation method for 9.0 works exactly the same with 9.0 SR-1.
