Can some buddy tell me...
is there anyway to decrypt the Copy protected .WMA Files?
or if sombody knows how to unprotect or convert DRM Protected WMA files to MP3? your suggestion would be the great help if u think it is possible to use those copy protected wma files by anyway... share plz

normally decrypt it's for illegal purposes so 4 what do u want to decrypt them?

but im a bit confused about what so bad in unprotecting some media files which ive downloaded for free! unfortunately they were already Protected and inaccessible.
anyways... im gonna del this thread if it is considered illegal

Maybe are these files from his second computer and is the orginal cd damaged

So, it could be completely legal.

because those files (generally) are free downloadable but to prevent share they are protected so it's illegal, i know looks stupid but it's similar to a shareware program...

well, if hes like like me and owns an mp3 player that only uses mp3 format playback, or his mp3/wav cd player wont play the protected files (such as mp3 cds in cars or something) it has to be decripted in orer to listen to. most of us want to take our music with us, not get held down to using the computer to listen to our music. also, maybe the song wont let him burn to a cd, then whats the point....

to many problems these days.....all of a sudden all this dmv crap. i remember the days that you could burn a cd, and rip a cd you bought to the format and quality you want, not be restricted to 128 wma (which is not 192 mp3)

Hello, I have recently bought a brand new cd (switchfoot's) and would like to be able to play it on my iPod. I obviously have the license, but iTunes won't import it because its 'protected'. How do I get around this? I mean I've got the real cd so this seems ridiculous to me.

Removing DRM from protected audio

You'll need Windows Media Player, Deamon Tools or other virtual drive app and the Nero Fast Burning plugin

Open the protected track (or tracks) in WMP, choose "Copy to a CD or Device", check the tracks you want to copy and in the pulldown below "Items on device" on the top right, select "Nero fast CD-Burning plug-in", click "Copy" in the top right, this will bring up the Nero interface, where it say's "Current Recorder" select "Image Recorder" then burn.

Now mount your newly created image.

You'll see that you have a normal Audio CD mounted, from which you can rip the tracks to whatever format you want without having to worry about DRM.

This results in no loss of sound quality which you will no doubt get if you play your protected tracks and capture the audio with various recording apps. The above works with WMP 9, I haven't tried it on WMP 10.

All these given answers are for protected files that the WMP kan decrypt.... According to the original poster, these files are dwnloaded and aren't decryptable by WMP. As he states 'inaccessible'.

Unfortunately, if the DRM protection uses RSA method (private/public key), which it probably does as it's being implemended everywhere these days, then there is no, nor will probably ever be (assuming that no brainbox comes with an revolutionary algorithm to resolve every number in prime-factors), way to decrypt it without knowing the private key... brute force is possible, but time is the bottleneck=> the bigger the number, the more time you need.

This is a fantastic solution, however it does not work with WMP 10, as the menu items as described are not available in WMP 10. However, if you have Nero v6.0, you can convert wma files completely from within Nero.

First, you may need to download and install the WMA plugin for Nero...you can get it here

Then, run Nero and just load the .wma files into a session as though you are going to burn a normal audio CD, but choose Image Recorder as the drive instead of your CD recorder.

Save the image file as .nrg, then when it's finished mount the image using Nero ImageDrive.

As stated above by SyntaxError, once the image is mounted it behaves just like a normal Audio CD, which you can then use Nero to save the tracks in whatever format you wish!

Excellent find SyntaxError! I used to do this the "old fashioned" way (playing files in real time and using recording app) But your suggestion put me on the path of discovering this alternative method!
Much quicker, alot less work, and no loss of sound quality!!!

NOTE: The method described here ONLY WORKS IF YOU HAVE PURCHASED THE .WMA FILE, and therefore have the DRM license on your computer.

This doesn't work anymore. The method mentioned above, using the fast plugin. Once you start burning, Nero will tell you you don't have enough DRM licenses. Any suggestions?

Not to go off-topic here, but I have a huge problem with all this DRM crap. I had a small collection of "protected" media on my pc and was trying to warm up to the fact that this is the direction everyone is headed. Then I upgraded the CPU in my computer and none of it would play anymore. That's it, a change from an AMD Athlon XP 2000+ to a 3200+ voided my legally acquired licenses and I was screwed.

After that I pretty much have no interest in abiding by the wishes of Hollywood or the customer suing RIAA. Sorry, just had to vent a little.

That's why you should've decrypted them and stored them that way - make backups to be safe.

If the file can be played, it can be recorded. Windows Sound Recorder works quite well for this purpose.

Open up Writer/Textwriter/word
Save the empty document to your desktop
Call it '$sys$a' without the tick marks
Close your editor
Minimize all your windows so you can see your desktop
Click your desktop on an empty area
Press the F5 key to refresh the icons

Do you still see $sys$a.[doc | odf | txt | rtf ]
If not, you're infected with the Sony Virus.
Your best bet is to reformat

BTW, some new Sony DVDs have go.exe....

I searched for such soft and found SoundTaxi - I was impressed theat it's possible to convert nearly 300 songs for less than 1 hour!!!

Some .wma files are offered for free downlod but will time out after a while. Some require a license to prove you bought it.

If you have a problem you didn't buy it!

GO BUY IT!

Any solution to this problem will be used primaily for stealing from the artists.

I vote this topic closed.

Downloading a .wma for free and then circumventing the protection is the same as downloading the .mp3 from a peer to peer.
