:}
IS there a definitive way to make a bootable DVD using Nero 6? I have used this site and forums to create my unattended folder (love this site by the way :thumbup , loads of info).
I peeked on the TEG site and tried following the long way. I have an ISO image, but it's the bootable part that I'm stuck on. The TEG site talks about using Nero and ISOBuster to extract the Microsoft Bootable Image file (.img)
Nero asks for a file (.ima) What gives here? What would be the procedure to use to make a bootable DVD?

Again Thanks for all the info here

Chudd

Exact same as making a CD. change .ima to all files and select the .img, no emulation, 4 sectors...

So I just change the extension to .ima? Sounds easy enough. Now do I include that file IN the ISO image?

Just click on 'files of type' and choose 'all' then choose
the file you want.
When I first tried to make a bootable DVD with Nero it didn't work.
Then I bought some better quality disks and then it worked.
Its no different that making a bootable CD.

No, it's a bootsector. Perhaps some other programs could properly integrate it into the iso image, but nero won't do that. I'm not sure how you created your iso image, but if you took all these files and added them to your nero bootable dvd it would work.

In nero:

-select bootable DVD
-open image, enter no emul, sectors, ...
-add all files to the disc
-burn

that's it. nothing more to it.

Oh OK I got it. I'll give it a try. I used nLite to create my ISO image. That should work right? If not I'll just add my files/folders to the image and do what you posted.

Thanks Crahak

Of course it is blank, you haven't selected anything to burn yet ;)
If you have got a bootable image file (ISO) already:
Start Nero Burning ROM
Skip the "New..." screen by clicking Cancel
Go to "Recorder" and "Burn Image"
Then select your iso image, check "finalize disc" (or something like that, my nero is german, so I had to try to translate it) and hit the burn button.
That's it. :)

Another thing: If you only have your DVD folder and want to turn that into a bootable iso, use Microsoft cdImage, it's a very good tool. It comes with the boot sector image.

Hello!

I am completely new in making bootable disks so I really have no idea what are you guys talking about (sectors, .ima files, etc.) and I need help.
The problem is... I borrowed DVD with windows XP and some progs which are all installed when I install Windows. And I wanted to make a copy of that DVD. Since I have just gotten a new computer, I have only one DVD rom, so I could not just copy the disc. I made and Image of the disk with Power Iso. It made a .daa file. And just in case I also copyed all the files from the dvd. And I tried to burn all that stuff to DVD. Firstly i just burned all the folders, then I burned the image and I got only the image on the DVD. I tried another program, image extracted into folders on the dvd but still it was not a bootable DVD. I destroyed like 8 DVDs now and I am really getting mad... :angrym: I really need the Windows DVD for my another friend, and I don't have the DVD i've borrowed anymore... So I only have files from the DVD and an ISO image .daa file.

Does anyone have an idea what can I do?? Please answer as soon as possible!

It's not being offended it is doing my job. You really are screwing your original friend...

Do you know there is such a thing as activation? After activating windows a couple of times with the same key MS will not let you activate anymore times so none of you get "free windows".

Not to mention all of the other apps on that DVD.
