They didn't start from scratch for OS X. It's far too much work. No way microsoft (even with their budget) could do something like that. They're making great progress. Also, old code generally means code that has been mostly debugged and fixed, whereas new code still contains bugs. It's all about reusing code, old code is good code. Unless it's a limitation, that you need more features or something like that... Also, major rewrites (like sp2) cost a lot of $, and it can't be helping the already steep price for their products...

Anyways, my vote is definately a no (but nothing about h4x0r'ing anything).

anyways, maybe code something from scratch other the next releases but then again, why mess with something thats made so much money and made life a lot easier

:unsure: hmmm... i dont know if they should recoded windows source code, what they should do is start windows from scratch, instead of building version on top of version with traces of IE3, IE4, IE5, Win31, Win95, etc, etc... and they could also make a big list of components which we could chose before and after installing windows, something that would give us total control over the OS we paid so much for!!

I think this would eliminate a LOT of vulnerabilities and make the OS a lot faster than how it is now...

Hi all,

In installed sp2 and wiith no problems. But since sp2 has come out, it would seem that now we are faced with even more dangers to the systems. They fix one problem only to find another and then another.

It might be in their best interest to recode it all and do it right this time, as I for one am sick of microsoft and thier sloppy work and very poor excuses. While many computer systems are being hurt and the people also, Microsoft is laughing all the way to the bank. It is very disheatening to say the least.

I am also considering going to another OS entirely and that would be Linspire.

well if u want to move away from windows, u've lots of choices thesedays.

I'm just hoping longhorn will be good. otherwise unless some FORCE is used on Billy i don't think a rewrite of a code will happen.

u know, unless millions of ppl start emailing microsoft and walking to seattle and wanting their money back or wanting a complete re-write of a product :)

now here's what i actually think. now there is a core which's known to have some bugs. it can be fixed so i'd go look at individual components to fix them. and MS is doing that. (though very slowly :P)

when u have a stable system going u wouldn't want to change it since u don't know how the new one's going to be right?. they'll try new things on the new windows and they won't have much knowledge in those. so it'll be a failure unless they take time on it and debug it carefully. but now as

i said earlier, there are specific known bugs and they should be fixed.....

They did a recode with xp. The later betas ran like a dream. Then before release, they added all the compatibity for 9x systems and made it unstable. Explorer never crashed in the betas.

I can't vote as this road to recode has already been taken.

hmm wait so then if we remove the compatibility support will xp run nicer? (well at least remove it with nlite if not all)

i never tested it but i think not, reason it's that compatibility it's deeply integrated, what you remove with nlite it's the file properties option.
