Updating old Encartas

Encarta Reference Library Plus 2004 DVD can be updated until 31-Oct-2004.
If I buy it after that date will it be possible to obtain the last update? Or will I get a message that this product is no longer supported?
Also if I managed to buy it and update it before the end date but later need to format my hard disk. will it be possible to backup the updated version before formatting and later install the backup somehow?
